In basketball, guards are the engines of the game. They have the responsibility to control the game and not slow down the tempo. This past week in the WNBA—from June 22 to June 28—fans witnessed exactly that.
Throughout the week, guards stepped up spectacularly, delivering clutch performances. Here’s a look at the best of the best, ranked by how they shaped the week on the court.
Portland Fire’s Carla Leite averaged 20 points, 6.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game last week.
Not only was she brilliant for dishing out assists and scoring, but she also averaged 1.3 steals per game, helping the team defensively.
Phoenix Mercury’s Kahleah Copper averaged 25 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game last week.
She has had a major impact on the Mercury, averaging 20.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game this season.

The Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers has been the cornerstone of her team.
Just last week, she averaged 25.7 points, 5 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.
With her help, the Wings stand sixth overall right now.
Although the Seattle Storm have been struggling this season, with a record of 5-15 and a 14th-place standing, rookie Johnson has tried her best to lift the team’s morale.
She was a beast last week, averaging 21 points, 8.3 rebounds, and five assists per game.
Johnson also showcased a defensive masterclass, averaging 2.3 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
Who would’ve thought two rookies would be in the top three, but that is how effective Miles has been for the Minnesota Lynx.
She not only averaged 21 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, but also acted as a defensive wall, averaging a block and a steal per game last week.
The Lynx hold a sturdy lead thanks to her, leading the league in overall standings, with a record of 15-4.
Marina Mabrey’s 53 points against the Sparks on June 25 tied Liz Cambage’s WNBA scoring record from 2018 and A’ja Wilson’s from 2023.
