WNBA Has Strong Words for Chicago Sky Star on Thursday

Thursday night at Wintrust Arena, the Chicago Sky finally broke through after a tumultuous start to their 2025 WNBA season, edging the Dallas Wings 97-92 in a hard-fought victory.

The win marked Chicago’s first of the year, snapping an 0-4 skid that had left fans questioning the team’s direction under first-year head coach Tyler Marsh.

Yet the storyline that reverberated most loudly came as veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot ascended to the top of the Sky’s all-time scoring list with 3,728 points, eclipsing the mark previously held by her wife, Allie Quigley (3,723).

Shortly afterwards, the WNBA posted on X to celebrate the moment and congratulate Vandersloot with the caption, "Courtney Vandersloot just stole the crown from her wife, Allie Quigley, to become the @chicagosky’s all-time leading scorer Talk about a power couple!".

Though the final minutes were tense, with Dallas clawing within two points in the closing minutes, Chicago’s balanced attack proved decisive.

All-Rookie Kamilla Cardoso poured in 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Ariel Atkins provided 17 points, six assists and five rebounds in 35 minutes of action.

Yet, it was Vandersloot who stole the headlines.

A five-time All-Star and two-time WNBA champion (2021 with Chicago, 2024 with New York), Vandersloot ranks second all-time in league assists (2,871) and holds the single-season record for assists per game (10.0).

With the win, Chicago improved to 1-4 on the young season, a modest start, but a vital one nevertheless.

The Sky will now head to Dallas for a rematch with the Wings on Saturday.
