Chennedy Carter is thriving with the Las Vegas Aces in the 2026 season after spending the past year away from the WNBA. She's averaging 17.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 20.3 minutes per game.
The 27-year-old guard is second on the team in scoring, behind only A'ja Wilson. Carter has also provided the Aces what they were missing in the past year: a guard who can attack the basket and create her own plays off the bench.
However, it doesn't look like Carter is happy with her role with the Aces. She said after a May 17 game against the Atlanta Dream that she's a "bit disappointed" because she wasn't on the floor during crunch time. She then followed it up with a rant on social media, during which she mentioned about being on a "leash" with the Aces.
The aforementioned rant started after Carter replied to critics mentioning how Azzi Fudd outplayed her during the Aces' May 28 showdown with the Dallas Wings.
"Not to mention I made her ankle touch the ground," Carter wrote on Threads. "But y’all can hollar at me when my leash is off, too. It's completely unfair, even though statistically, it's not even close."
WNBA legend Candace Parker, for her part, saw Carter's remarks and was not too pleased about it as well. She pointed out how Aces head coach Becky Hammon probably didn't like what the veteran guard said.
"Chennedy also alluded to still being on a leash in Vegas, which probably didn't sit well with Becky Hammond, if I know her very well," Parker said during a recent episode of her "Post Moves" podcast with Aliyah Boston.
Parker also reminded Carter that she is trying to prove that she can be a "leader" for a WNBA team, especially after concerns about her attitude over the past years. To recall, he Chicago Skyreportedly decided not to keep Carter after the 2024 season due to concerns about her locker room behavior and how she could negatively impact their ability to attract free agents, per Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times.
"Right now, Chennedy Carter is auditioning to be a number one or a number two option," Parker added. "There is zero doubt that Chennedy Carter can hoop. If you're going to take a chance on a young superstar, you wanna make sure you're taking a chance on the whole person."
She further stated, "You're capable of doing the things that leaders do, and I think part of that is representing yourself in the most positive light."
It remains to be seen how Carter's situation with the Aces will pan out, but sure enough, there are plenty of eyes on her and the team.
