The WNBA featured the first meeting between the New York Liberty and the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. There was an obvious difference in strength between the two teams. However, the results were surprising and historic for the 2025 regular season.
Led by Sabrina Ionescu, the Liberty had a 100-52 victory against the Connecticut Sun. The entire game was lopsided as Ionescu finished with 18 points, five assists and two steals. The three-time All-Star only played for 18 minutes and 56 seconds against Connecticut.
Her teammates, Leonie Fiebich, Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones each had 13 points under their name. They were the only players who scored at least double digits.
After the game, the league recognized the historic achievement the Liberty had against the Sun. The WNBA posted it on X for everyone to see how iconic the New York squad was.

The league highlighted the team's 7-0 start to the season, which ties them for their franchise record. The only other team that has remained undefeated is the Minnesota Lynx.
New York also had 19 3-pointers made during the game. Their performance from deep ties the record they set early in the campaign for 3-pointers made. Also, their 48-point margin against the Sun is the new franchise record. Lastly, the lead they had over the Sun is the second-highest margin of victory in the league.

The Liberty started the season strong and is looking to keep its streak going. It's only been a few weeks since the season started, but New York has already asserted their dominance.
Connecticut, meanwhile, remains in last place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 1-6 record. They look to bounce back on Friday against the Atlanta Dream.
