WNBA star Kelsey Plum came up clutch for the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, draining the game-winner against the Dallas Wings that had major playoff implications.

Entering the game, both the Wings and the Chicago Sky's playoff hopes hinged on the Dallas-L.A. game. A Sparks win would eliminate both teams from playoff contention, while a Wings victory would have given them another day to keep their postseason dream s alive.

However, while it looked like the Wings would win after turning things around and getting a 66-59 lead by the end of the third quarter, their efforts ended in vain. With the score tied at 79-all, the Sparks had one final shot to win the contest.

Plum took matters into her own hands and attacked the basket without fear, delivering a floater to win the game 81-80 as time expired. The WNBA shared a slow-motion video of the play in an alternate angle, further highlighting how clutch the shot was.

Plum finished with 20 points on 9-of-23 shooting. Despite her poor shooting display, going 1-of-9 from deep, what's important was she hit her shot when it mattered most. Rickea Jackson led the team in scoring with 25 points.

The Wings saw Paige Bueckers make histo ry for the most points by a rookie in WNBA history with 44 points. However, she's the only Dallas player to score more than 15 points.

How Did the Wings and Sky Get Eliminated From the Playoffs?

With the loss, the Wings dropped to 9-27 on the season, putting them nine games behind the eighth seed with just eight games to go. As a result, it's mathematically impossible for them to qualify for the playoffs.

Only the top eight teams, regardless of conference, qualify for the postseason.

As for the Sky, they remain at 8-26 with 10 games to play. Despite the fact that it's still possible for them to tie the 18-win record of the No. 8 Seattle Storm (if they lose their remaining games and Chicago doesn't lose anymore), Noelle Quinn's squad holds the tie-breaker advantage over Tyler Marsh's team by virtue of their head-to-head record.

Therefore, the Sky also have no chance of moving to the eighth seed, hence their elimination.
