Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu had to be helped off the court following an ankle injury. Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Just three games into her rookie season with the New York Liberty, WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu has suffered what appears to have been a bad ankle injury. During Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Dream, Ionescu stepped on an opponent’s foot, and her left ankle rolled badly.

Here’s video of the brutal-looking injury. Ionescu’s left ankle literally hit the floor as it bent nearly 90 degrees.

After being injured, Ionescu had to be helped off the court.

Hopefully the rookie sensation out of Oregon isn’t hurt as badly as it appeared she was. In two games early this season, she has averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
