WNBA Star Shares Strong Remarks on Stephanie White's Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever’s playoff push has taken another hit after suffering their second straight loss, dropping to a 21-20 record and placing them precariously in the final WNBA postseason spot. That defeat to the Phoenix Mercury also handed them a season-series loss.

The 2025 season was meant to be a promising one for Indiana under head coach Stephanie White. However, the Fever have been plagued by a wave of injuries, with star guard Caitlin Clark missing her 19th consecutive game due to a groin injury. Losing point guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald for the remainder of the season, plus Sophie Cunningham, has also left the backcourt dangerously thin. The recent setbacks have forced White to explore several adjustments to the rotation, and opposing teams have managed to exploit the loopholes.

Alyssa Thomas Sounds Off on Stephanie White’s Schemes

While Indiana is hanging on for dear life, Phoenix has surged as one of the league’s top contenders. Currently the fourth seed, the Mercury have won five straight games and are gearing up for a deep playoff run.

Following the team’s latest win, six-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas didn’t mince words when asked about White and the Fever’s offensive schemes.

“We know everything they’re about to do,” Thomas said, exposing just how familiar Mercury was with the Fever’s tactics.

The Mercury’s mastery was clear on the stat sheet — Thomas flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 23 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, while former Fever player DeWanna Bonner contributed 19 points of her own.

On the other side, Kelsey Mitchell bore the scoring burden for Indiana with a game-high 29 points, supplemented by four rebounds and four assists. Lexie Hull added 18 points, and Aliyah Boston chipped in 11, but their production wasn’t enough to offset the roster gaps made more glaring by Clark’s absence. With their backcourt gutted, opponents have been able to anticipate and counter the Fever’s strategy.

Playoff Outlook and Clark’s Potential Return Still in Focus

The Fever are ahead of the ninth-seeded Los Angeles Sparks by just one game. As the regular season winds down with only three games remaining for Indiana — against the Chicago Sky, Washington Mystics, and a final showdown with league-leading Minnesota Lynx — the timing of Clark’s return couldn't be more critical to Indiana’s playoff hopes.

Her full availability could lift the offense and restore balance to a wounded roster, offering the Fever the best chance to climb the standings and make a deep run. Comeback or not, Indiana's fight for postseason relevance will come down to these final matchups and the resilience of the players still on the floor.
