Phoenix Mercury guard Sophie Cunningham became a fan favorite this past WNBA season due to her sharpshooting on the court and her fashion off it.
Cunningham averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game for the Mercury. She started 21 of 40 games for Phoenix, proving to be valuable regardless of her role. As for her pregame fashion, let's just say fans loved what she was bringing to the table.
"The outfits that have went really viral, my mom has actually picked them out," Cunningham told the New York Post. "It’s been really fun because now (my family) is on all the outfits. And trust me, my family is like, 'Oh, gosh, what’s Sophie gonna wear today?' It’s just like a running joke."
On Tuesday night, Cunningham provided a brief look into her offseason training process. The former second-round pick from Missouri shared a selfie of her lounging in a sauna. She was wearing black shorts with a matching sports bra.
Cunningham's photo included this caption: "sauna bby."
Back in September, the Mercury signed Cunningham to an extension that runs through the 2025 season.
“Phoenix has become my home away from home, and I am so thrilled to be in the Valley and continue to get to play in front of the best fans in the W – the X-Factor,” Cunningham said in a statement. “The investments Mat is making in our organization are unmatched and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of what we are building here, on the court and in the community.”
If Cunningham can build off the success she had in 2024, it's possible she'll receive yet another extension from the Mercury.
In order for Cunningham to secure long-term security, she has to keep her foot on the gas. Judging by her Instagram Story this Tuesday, she's doing just that.
