WNBA star Skylar Diggins has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband.
Diggins filed for divorce on March 26, according to TMZ Sports, saying the marriage was "irretrievably broken." She and her husband Daniel Smith, a former University of Notre Dame wide receiver, first separated last November per court documents. The two originally met when they were both students at Notre Dame; Diggins and Smith were married in 2017 and have two children together, a six-year-old and a two-year-old.
TMZ's report comes days after Diggins requested she no longer be referred to as Skylar Diggins-Smith, using a nameplate at Seattle Storm media day that omitted the "Smith" surname.
"Yes, it does say Skylar Diggins," the Storm guard said of the nameplate when asked. "I would like to be addressed by that moving forward."
We'd like to wish Diggins and Smith the best as they work through their divorce and continue to raise their children.
On the court, Diggins, 34, is heading into her 13th season in the WNBA and second with the Storm. The 5-foot-9 left-hander started all 40 games for Seattle in 2024, averaging 15.1 points and a career-high 6.4 assists per game.
A six-time All-Star and four-time first-team All-WNBA player, Diggins spent the winter suiting up for the Lunar Owls in the first season of Unrivaled, the women's 3-on-3 league which held all of its games in Miami.
"I had a great time at Unrivaled," Diggins said earlier this week. "I think it really got me prepared, especially coming off last season. I can't say it enough, coming off maternity leave and having that big of a gap between games. When I went into the season and the opportunity came about, nobody really kind of knew what it really was or what it was going to be.
"Once I saw the caliber of players that were going to be involved, I knew that was going to be some good run for me to get ready for this camp. Everything that I wanted to use it for came to fruition."
