Angel Reese dominated in the Atlanta Dream's showdown against the Portland Fire on Friday night. The two-time All-Star recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, to propel Atlanta to an 86-66 victory.
Reese shot 6-of-14 from the field and also tallied five assists and one block, as Atlanta made easy work of Portland. The Dream improved to 5-2 on the season with the win, keeping them in the top three of the WNBA standings.
While it was an unforgettable showing for Reese, it wasn't without its issues. The 24-year-old forward received a technical foul midway through the first quarter.
Reese was first called for a loose ball foul on Megan Gustafson after hitting the Fire center in the neck/face area with her left arm. The Dream star was not happy with the call, and so she looked back at the referee and waved him off.
The referee proceeded to hit Reese with a technical foul for her gesture.
As the broadcasters noted, the technical foul will cost Reese some money. Per WNBA rules, a player's first three technical fouls result in a $500 fine each. Technical fouls four through seven carry a $1,000 fine each, while each additional technical call beyond that leads to a $1,500 fine.
Reese's latest tech is her third of the season, which means she will have to pay a $500 fine if the penalty is not rescinded.
Going forward, Reese will need to be more careful since it's still early in the season. Should she reach the threshold of eight technical fouls, she will be suspended one game in addition to receiving a fine.
