Indiana Fever teammates Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are already building chemistry—and having a little fun online while they’re at it.
The playful banter started after the Fever’s preseason opener against the Washington Mystics, when Cunningham, in a postgame interview, hilariously misspoke and said, “This is just a fresh of breath air.” Instead of brushing it off, she embraced it—later posting photos from media day on Instagram, proudly captioned: “a fresh of breath air.”
Caitlin Clark couldn’t resist jumping in, replying, “Not only did you double down … you triple down that this was the correct saying.” The good-natured exchange showed fans that not only are these two clicking on the court, but they’re also vibing off of it.
After spending six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, Sophie Cunningham moved to the Indiana Fever during the offseason and would now be playing with Caitlin Clark, a move that’s seen to have shaken the league given the qualities of these two players.
Cunningham joined the Fever this offseason after six years with the Phoenix Mercury and is clearly excited for this new chapter, especially playing alongside Clark, one of the most talked-about rookies in WNBA history.
And Cunningham’s transition comes with a serious pedigree. She spent years learning alongside WNBA legend Diana Taurasi, which she says helped prepare her for teaming up with Clark.
“Anytime you play with the … GOAT of our game, you’re gonna learn a lot. You have to be ready for the ball, head on a swivel at all times. And the way (Clark) throws the ball is a lot like how DT threw it. I think this is just the younger version of her,” Cunningham said.
With Clark’s elite passing and Cunningham’s scoring ability, this duo could become one of the most electric in the league. If the early signs are any indication, Fever fans are in for a fun ride.
