Mercedes Mone is a force to be reckoned with. Her impressive 26-4 record and nine championships speak for themselves. Mercedes has run through the AEW Women’s Division and countless independent circuits worldwide. It doesn’t seem like she’s slowing down anytime soon. Unfortunately for The CEO, derailing the Mone Train is possible. In May of 2025, Mercedes Mone lost her NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship to AZM. The match also involved Mina Shirakawa, who took the pin.
Mercedes seemed to use this loss as a motivator— winning title after title following the loss. However, there are plenty of other women who still have their shot at derailing the Mone Train. Many of whom have yet to stand across Mone in the squared circle. Today, let’s look at five women who could derail 9 Belts Mone and demote the CEO.
Following their previous two encounters, fans have been asking Tony Khan to set up another match between Athena and Mercedes Mone. Their historic match on the April 16th, 2025 edition of Dynamite proved that the two have tremendous chemistry. The high-stakes match was filled with drama, skill, and intensity. Fans. Want. More.
Athena’s work on the AEW Main Roster as of late has proved she is ready for a more prominent role in the company. However, The Fallen Goddess is still the leading force down in Ring of Honor as Women’s Champion.
After defeating Mina Shirakawa at Death Before Dishonor, it doesn’t seem like Athena is going to stop her reign anytime soon. That doesn’t mean that Athena can’t take a title from Mercedes. Though it does make her chances less likely as time goes on.
Okay, this one is a stretch. Tam Nakano retired from professional wrestling in April of 2025, following a loss to Saya Kamitani at All Star Grand Queendom. However, everyone knows that no one in wrestling really retires. Nevertheless, Tam Nakano vs. Mercedes Mone is a huge dream match for many, many fans.
Since Nakano’s retirement, she has gone radio silent on all social media. Fans are starting to speculate more and more about what she’s been up to. Fans have also pointed out that Tam is only 37, which is a young age to retire from the sport. However, Joshi typically start training very, very young, so Japanese women retiring “early” isn’t uncommon.
Additionally, Tam suffered a horrible leg injury in 2023, causing her to vacate her World of Stardom Championship. This injury may have played a factor in her decision to retire from wrestling.
Although a match between the Top Kawaii of the Cosmos and The CEO is slim, it’s not impossible. If this match does happen, it will have fans divided on whether or not they Believe In Tam, or ride the Mone Train.
For now, fans can enjoy old matches, as well as the lasting impressions Tam Nakano made on STARDOM. Such as her fighting spirit, mentoring others like Natsupoi and Saya Kamitani, and the faction she founded, Cosmic Angels.
Another Joshi who hasn’t crossed paths with Mercedes Mone is Sareee. Sareee has been making headlines left and right after leaving NXT to return to Japan. She quickly started terrorizing the Joshi scene with stiff kicks and candid promos. This led her to win the IWGP Women’s Championship at STARDOM’s The Conversion. Coincidentally, the IWGP Women’s Championship was Mercedes Mone’s first title win since leaving WWE.
Sareee’s wrestling style mixed with Mercedes’ seems to be a match made in heaven. Additionally, Sareee’s current status as a freelancer makes this match much more feasible. Mercedes has titles from all around the world, but no longer holds one from Japan. Only time will tell if Mercedes can win back some IWGP gold, or if Sareee-ISM is too much for The CEO to handle.
“The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo is no stranger to wrestling gold. In 2021, not only was she the Impact (TNA) Knockouts Champion, but also the AAA Reinas de Reinas Champion. Eventually, Deonna would drop both championships, but her reign as double champion is still talked about today. After losing the Impact title to Trinity (Naomi) in 2023, she would quickly sign with AEW.
Since joining the promotion, Deonna Purrazzo has done… nothing of genuine interest. However, recently she revealed this is because she has been focusing on school. Purrazzo said, “AEW is so great. Encouraging us to go back to school.
They are constantly, like ‘If you go back’ and they have a program where they reimburse us for our tuition up to a certain amount each year.” Tony Khan also commented on her status, “Deonna has been really positive about AEW, and I want to give Deonna a good opportunity.”
Due to this, many fans feel like it is time to give Deonna some spotlight. A TBS title reign could be a great way to execute this, while also giving fans another match they’ve been waiting for.
For now, Deonna is competing in the ROH Women’s Pure Championship Tournament. The Virtuosa may soon cross paths with Mercedes Mone, but it may not be for one of Mone’s titles. That all depends on whether the CEO is willing to take a trip down to Ring of Honor.
Alex Windsor isn’t just Will Ospreay’s wife; she is one of the most talented wrestlers to come out of the UK as of late. Trained by Saraya’s (FKA Paige in WWE) parents, she soon took the independent circuit by storm, before signing with AEW in 2025. Although her win-loss record is 3-9, her wins are impressive.
Additionally, Mercedes Mone has only beaten Windsor in multi-woman matches. In fact, a one-on-one match between the two has yet to happen. Most recently, Mercedes retained her TBS Title at Forbidden Door against Alex, as well as Bozilla and Persephone. Despite this, all women had a strong showing, especially Alex.
On the August 27th, 2025 edition of Dynamite, Mone added fuel to the fire. She stated, “If she wants to ride the Mone Train again, then I’m going to beat her so senseless that she’ll be sitting in a hospital bed right next to her husband.” This promo has made fans hopeful that Alex Windsor will finally get her singles showing against The CEO. With All In in September, this match becomes more and more likely.
