It looks like theAEW announce table is going to be a little different due to Taz’s recent announcement. The wrestler turned commentator announced on October 8 that he is going to be going under the knife.

Taz Is Having Shoulder Surgery Soon

Taz is set to have a total shoulder replacement surgery in a “short time” and will be off AEW television for some time. He wrote on X on Wednesday:

“I will be having total shoulder replacement surgery in a short time. Therefore I will be off AEW Dynamite for some time. See you soon.”

Back in May 2024, Taz revealed that he would need both knees and shoulders replaced. Before surgery, Taz was going to try “regenerative procedures,” though he did decide to go under the knife. In October 2024, he had one knee replaced and was gone from AEW until late December.

Due to his knee replacement surgery, Taz couldn’t travel to London, England, for Forbidden Door. The long flight would have been too hard on his knee.

When Taz first announced that he needed these surgeries in the Spring of 2024, he revealed that it wasn’t because of past bumps he had taken in his career, but happened while he was training. He had said:

“This is NOT from bumps… It’s from training too heavy like a caveman trying to be “big”. I’m posting this for today’s wrestlers, please be smarter, times have changed for the better!!”

Taz joined All Elite Wrestling in 2019. He’s been a main fixture on the commentary team with Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.

Taz Gets Well-Wishes From Fans And His Peers

It’s not shocking that many have commented on Taz’s tweet about his upcoming shoulder replacement. Former WCW and WWE head writer Vince Russo wrote:

“Brother---they'll probably take you're temperature before the Op.Surgeon after taking Taz's Temperature. (In a Panicked Voice) ‘A HUNDRED AND ELEVEN!!!’”

Former ROH star and freelance wrestling commentator Veda Scott said:

“Lots of Love!”

One fan gave him advice to “rest up.” They wrote:

“Rest up! My uncle just had that done, certainly doesn't look pleasant.”

While another fan brought up how Taz can keep Don Callis in line. They said:

“D–n that's rough man. Hope it goes well. Without you to distract Don Callis he's going to be even more insufferable than ever. Get well soon!”

Taz’s son, Hook, recently came back to the ring after a lengthy absence due to a concussion. He made his return on the August 27 episode of Dynamite. Only a few days before his return, he had signed a new multi-year contract with AEW. Anyway, hopefully, Taz will have a speedy recovery, and Hook will stay injury-free too.
