Welcome to our recap of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite results.
AEW Dynamite aired live from the Boeing Center at Tech Port, San Antionio, TX. A spectacular WrestleDream is behind us, leaving an aftermath of action-packed drama in the squared circle! After all three members of The Opps assaulted Hangman Adam Page, they face Hurt Syndicate after their hot victory over The Demand. Will Page factor in the matchup or post-match? Tune in to find out! Meanwhile, Kazuchika Okada defends his Unified Championship against Bandido, continuing their feud from the weekend. I’d imagine Konosuke Takeshita still seethes after Okada’s stray Rainmaker and gleeful face thereafter to be the reason for any possible intrusion on this match.
AEW Dynamite airs live tonight, again from the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas.
The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, & Powerhouse Hobbs) (c) defeated The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, & MVP) for the AEW World Trios Championship
(Intense opener with the big boys coming in to play. The mean streak of everyone in the Opps comes at a perfect time with Hurt Syndicate coming across as a hot babyface triumvirate, and that’s just plain cool.)
Benjamin and Shibata locked up, eventually leading the latter to engage an ankle lock. Hobbs teased a confrontation with Lashley, but Joe tagged in. At first, Lashley dominated Joe, but the Submission Machine absorbed his and Benjamin’s offense. Benjamin sought to grapple with Hobbs, but the Powerhouse’s strength was too much to bear. Joe landed a senton on Benjamin.
Joe’s headlock grounded Benjamin, but when he escaped, Joe stomped him back down. Benjamin scrambled Joe’s brain by reversing a vertical suplex into a DDT. Lashley hurled Shibata around with sequential suplexes. Shibata fired back with a Penalty Kick. MVP hit his Ballin’ elbow drop. Lashley and MVP played defense on Joe and Shibata. Joe wrangled MVP for a Coquina Clutch, eventually cinching it in due to a Ricochet distraction.
Post-match: Tony Schiavone asked what The Opps’s plans were after WrestleDream. Joe touted the greatness of Shibata and Hobbs. He then declared that no matter who was champion, they were “not that man” when it came to him. Joe then insulted Hangman Adam Page and all the current Texas pro sports teams. “We’re never lacking,” Joe concluded.
Still respectfully celebrating her win over Toni Storm at WrestleDream, Statlander put Mone on blast. She set a match between the pair at Full Gear 2025.
Recognizing his victory over Jon Moxley at WrestleDream, he acknowledged the danger he and Moxley had placed themselves in. He concluded that wherever the Death Riders go, he won’t be too far behind.
Perry announced that Jurassic Express would be coming for the AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship. Luchasaurus growled in agreement.
Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata defeated Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale, Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue), and Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford
(I so hoped Nightinagle and Cameron would’ve got the victory since they color-coordinated better than anyone in this match. Fun 4-way, though.)
Nightingale dropped Cameron onto Blue. Bayne and Ford drove their shoulders into Cameron, nearly dropping her with a double-vertical suplex. Hayter knocked Ford off the ropes before unleashing elbows to Bayne. Bayne and Ford bowled over all their opponents with a tope and moonsault, respectively. Nightingale barreled down Hart and Blue, downing Blue with a nasty Spinebuster.
Bayne dragged Blue’s corpse to her corner for a tag so she could drop Ford onto Nightingale. Ford and Bayne coordinated a DDT + German Suplex combo to lay out Nightingale. Hayter and Aminata sent Nightingale tumbling outside with a double-back elbow. Headbutt + Hayterade combination from Aminata and Hayter laid Ford flat. Hayter pinned Ford for the win.
Post-match: Hayter and Aminata challenged Sisters of Sin in the Women’s World Tag Team Championship bracket.
The Young Bucks knocked on Khan’s door for a match to gain some wins again. Khan agreed, setting a rematch with Jurassic Express, with the addition of JetSpeed and FTR, who were in his office with him.
Renee Paquette introduced Mone, and just as her entrance music hit, Harley Cameron’s puppet Mone interrupted. Mone eventually came out, swaggering bitterly in the parted sea that was the men holding her many belts. She told them to get to the back twice, the second time as they were already departing. Mone told Paquette to get out, much to puppet Mone’s shock.
She berated Cameron, staring at puppet Mone as she did. Bragging about her accomplishments before dunking puppet Mone into the celebratory cake. Cameron emerged, tearful, when Kris Statlander surprised her by diving Mone’s face into the cake. Statlander concluded the proceedings by chokeslamming the CEO into the dessert and the table it sat upon.
Moxley leaned over a bathroom sink, telling Allin through the cameras behind him that his hardcore antics would be the end of him. Positing himself as one of a kind, he reported that the outcome of this rivalry won’t be good, and he spat water into the sink; some of it splashed onto the mirror. Very uncouth of Moxley.
(O’Reilly was the perfect person to elicit the nervousness and uncertainty in Moxley after acquiescing to Darby Allin at WrestleDream. That desperation translated into the finish quite profoundly.)
The Conglomeration and Roderick Strong joined O’Reilly for his entrance to wish him luck. Marina Shafir psyched Moxley up outside by slapping him twice.
O’Reilly gravitated an anxious Moxley to the mat with his technical wrestling; he left little room for Moxley to find an opening. Moxley transitioned a stretch into a juji gatame. A Flying Armbar returned the match to O’Reilly’s favor. Moxley recuperated after biting O’Reilly and thrusting him outside. A beleaguered Moxley brought a chair to use against O’Reilly, who dove off the apron, nullifying the Death Rider’s plans. Hammerlocking Moxley’s arm, O’Reilly overwhelmed him with low kicks. Following with a Guillotine Clutch, O’Reilly transitioned into a Triangle Choke.
O’Reilly targeted Moxley’s leg with a Giant Kneedrop. Moxley ensnared O’Reilly with a juji gatame, reversed by O’Reilly’s own. A lariat and piledriver landed Moxley inches from victory, as did a Bulldog Choke; O’Reilly refused to go down. O’Reilly pulled Moxley in for another Ankle Lock, but Moxley elbowed Referee Paul Turner to escape, ending the match without giving up.
Post-match: An army of referees and Conglomeration members charged on Moxley. The Death Riders pulled them apart and stomped on O’Reilly in front of an upset Texas crowd.
Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy) & Roderick Strong defeated Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, & Daniel Garcia)
(Absolute insanity. Roderick Strong and Claudio Castagnoli shone in particular.)
Cassidy and Yuta wrestled on the mat in a fast-paced fashion, resulting in a crucifix pin by Cassidy. Garcia surmounted Cassidy, spinning around him until weary. Briscoe locked up with Garcia, battering his jaw with elbows. Castagnoli catapulted Strong into the corner with an Irish Whip, met in kind with a dropkick, elbows, and chops by Strong. Dazing Castagnoli with a flurry of offense, Strong broke from it to deliver a backbreaker to Garcia. Yuta swept Strong’s leg off the ring apron, jamming the jaw on its hard surface. Castagnoli dropped the Messiah of the Backbreaker’s neck onto the barricade.
The Death Riders combined their efforts to wear out Strong, but his Backbreaker and back-body drop lent him reprieve. Cassidy dizzied Garcia and Yuta, taunting them before propelling them backward via a double dropkick. Briscoe fought off Castagnoli and Yuta, soon to moonsault them and Garcia on the outside from the top rope. Fisherman Buster depleted Yuta’s reserves, but couldn’t keep him down. Garcia prevented a Jay Driller, clenching in a Guillotine Clutch. European Uppercut by Castagnoli knocked out Cassidy. Garcia and Castagnoli catapulted Briscoe into Yuta. While chaos erupted at ringside, Yuta drove elbows into Briscoe’s neck. A lariat from the Sussex County Chicken, followed by his late brother’s Jay Driller, saw Yuta look at the lights for the 3-count.
Post-match: Tomohiro Ishii clobbered Pac for the post-match beatdown on Briscoe. Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir returned to assault Ishii. O’Reilly also came back to lay them out. Darby Allin kneecapped Castagnoli, setting Cassidy up for an Orange punch. The concerned Death Riders escorted an irate Moxley away.
Mone sobbed as her face was adorned with cake. Athena soothed her, suggesting they team up for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Mone obliged.
Enjoying his heated rivalry with Briscoe, Fletcher assured everyone that he’d continue to win every time. Predicting that he’d be the TNT Championship for a very, very, very, very, very, very long time. Briscoe strutted to the ring, asking for one more shot despite Fletcher saying they were done. Don Callis urgently whispered to Fletcher before complimenting Briscoe. For as much as he respected Briscoe’s abilities, Callis rejected Briscoe’s challenge on Fletcher’s behalf.
Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata, Sisters of Sin (Skye Blue & Julia Hart), Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron, Mercedes Mone & Athena, Alex Windsor & Riho, Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa, Megan Byane & Penelope Ford, and TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) were slated to fight in the Tag Team Championship Tournament.
Shirakawa stated that she and Toni Storm would be ready for the tournament. Fellow former Stardom wrestler Thekla approached Shirakawa. She informed Shirakawa that, as sad as Storm was after failing to regain her World Championship at WrestleDream, she’d be sadder seeing what Thekla would do to her on the 10/25 AEW Collision.
(Bandido becoming someone who could believably bring someone like Okada, Takeshita, and more to their breaking point has been a treat to see this year.)
Bandido maintained control over Okada’s neck, swiftly surpassing him with a frenzy of dodges and counters. Okada haunted Bandido’s left shoulders with a storm of elbows. Bandido swung a comeback with a Tornado-DDT across the ring apron that rocketed the Rainmaker to the floor. Pinballing himself in the ring and off the ring, Bandido’s control over the match exhausted Okada.
Okada winced after a moonsault from Bandido left him in agony. Teasing a Tombstone Piledriver, Okada instead wounded Bandido with a Sholderbreaker. One-armed catch by Bandido almost landed an Axe Knee on the Rainmaker, but a second one did the trick. Bandido used his momentum to fling Okada with a waist-lock suplex to no avail. As Bandido charged at the Unified Champion, he was toppled with a dropkick. Bandido snuck in a Rainmaker and Axe Knee. Okada withstood it to land the decisive Rainmaker to end the match.
Post-match: The Don Callis Family celebrated in the ring, but Konosuke Takeshita was late. Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher approached to calm him after Okada cost the pair the AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship match at WrestleDream.
Strong episode, filled with action that follows up on the WrestleDream event. The dominance of the Opps persisted as the Hurt Syndicate’s unending saga against The Demand continued. The Conglomeration as a whole resumed its chemistry-riddled war against Death Riders, and the women’s tag team situation sees some exciting matchups that stay close to home. That said, I wish some concrete new stories were developing, maybe some returns or featuring of less-shown stars. Regardless, this card stood tall with some excellent matches and the Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament spicing things up.
