AEW Is Reportedly Concerned Adam Cole's Career Might Be Over
AEW

There hasn't been much in the way of news regarding Adam Cole since the AEW star was forced to relinquish the TNT Title at All In due to injuries. Cole hinted at the time that there's a chance he may never wrestle again, and four months later, some in AEW are starting to fear Cole's comments might have been accurate.

That's according to Wrestling Observer Live's Bryan Alvarez . Tony Khan was asked about Cole during a press conference ahead of Saturday's Full Gear. The AEW boss didn't really have an update on Cole's recovery, and simply noted that whether it's in an in-ring capacity or not, there will always be a spot for Cole in the company.

AEW Higher Ups Are Reportedly Starting To Worry About Adam Cole's Future

The lack of an answer from Khan led fans to think Cole's recovery might not be going well, and according to Alvarez, that's probably a somewhat accurate assumption to make. The wrestling journalist claims Cole's situation is "not great" and that even though the former NXT Champion was talked out of retiring when he delivered his emotionally charged promo at All In, higher-ups are now leaning towards thinking Cole may well never wrestle again.

"I think the feeling is that he may not ever wrestle again. And it’s a strong feeling in that direction," Alvarez said. "He’s still dealing with a lot of different things. All the best to him. I think what’s most important is his brain and his head. Wrestling is wrestling, but my guess is he’s probably done, even though it has not been made official. But we’ll wait and see."

Cole's AEW Run Has Been Marred By Injuries

Cole has been suffering from a lot of injuries since signing with AEW, some of which have kept him on the sidelines for an extended period. He was previously out for over a year between 2023 and 2024 after suffering a serious ankle injury. As for his head, the concussion that has led to talk of an early retirement is his third on record in AEW, and Cole admitted it took a long time for him to recover from the one before that.

It was noted at the time that Cole was ready to go out and retire in front of the fans at All In when he revealed live that he wouldn't be able to compete and had to relinquish the TNT Championship. Cole was talked down from doing that, which, considering the moment, the emotions involved, and how little time had passed since sustaining the latest injury and making the announcement, was probably the right call. That's still true, even if Cole never wrestles again, but sadly, it seems more and more likely that he may have to retire after all.
