As All Elite Wrestling is preparing for its biggest event of the year, AEW All In at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, there is a lot of news coming out of the company. One of the more intriguing news stories seemingly is not anything that is breaking as it is being reported that a wrestling legend inked a six-year contract with AEW back in December. Let’s take a closer look and discuss what we know.
In Thursday’s edition of The Dallas Morning News, insider Evan Grant wrote a piece about Dustin Rhodes and quickly revealed that the wrestling legend signed a six-year contract with AEW during the end of 2024.
“If he can make it to the end of the six-year deal he signed with AEW over the winter, in which he consults, coaches, occasionally wrestles and acts as an ambassador for the promotion, he’ll have six decades in the business. He’s endured 14 surgeries, still needs both knees replaced and his shoulders are a wreck. Still he shows up to run the school and his satellite wrestling operation, still paints his face, a tradition that started when Vince McMahon handed him a bizarre androgynous character named Goldust that was doomed to go nowhere. Dustin, with wrestling chops and comedic instincts, saw it as a way out from the shadow of his dad’s persona and made it work.”
This is a great extension for AEW as having someone with the knowledge and experience of Dustin Rhodes in the company adds legitimacy and respect in the professional wrestling world. Rhodes still wrestles as part of a tag team with Sammy Guevara dubbed The Sons of Texas. The team is currently the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions and has wrestled in 14 matches during 2025 thus far.
Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara will be defending their championships against The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean) on Friday night inside the Esports Stadium Arlington.
