Friday night saw the return of one AJ Lee on WWE SmackDown. To no one’s surprise, the WWE Universe welcomed her back with open arms, as she rained down on Becky Lynch and shared a sweet moment with her husband, CM Punk. While everyone’s ecstatic to see her, an immediate question comes to mind: “When will AJ Lee get back in the ring?” Those questions were answered this Monday night on WWE Raw.
AJ Lee skipped to the ring, still in possession and wearing Becky Lynch’s Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Lee would introduce herself to the people who might not know why their “millennials’ parents” were so excited to see her come back, referring to herself as “your favorite wrestler’s favorite wrestler.” AJ would tell the story of how she was satisfied when she hung up her Chuck Taylors in 2015 and went on a journey where she ticked off a lot of things on her bucket list, specifically, getting her mental health to the best it could be.
While she was happy to see her husband back, battling Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, AJ Lee said that seeing Becky Lynch provoke and “motorboat” her husband was a whole other beast, saying that while she could’ve seen a different reality where her and Becky could’ve been friends, Lynch crossed a line, essentially the reason why AJ Lee chose to come back.
Becky would enter the arena with a shiner from the beatdown she got from Lee, demanding her title belt back. Lee would literally draw the line in the sand, lay down the title, and ask Lynch to come and get it.
Seth Rollins would interject, pleading with Lee to give back the title. AJ would not relent, issuing a challenge that if Becky wants her title back, Lynch and her husband must agree to a tag team match at WrestlePalooza, with Lee and her husband CM Punk on the opposite corner.
Things got intensely heated, with Rollins entering the ring and continuing to convince AJ to give up the hardware. As Rollins went on a verbal tirade on Lee, CM Punk would come from behind and hoist him up for the GTS Rollins would squirm away. Livid and without the Women’s Intercontinental Title in hand, Rollins and Lynch would angrily accept the match at WWE WrestlePalooza on September 20, 2025, in Indianapolis.
For the first time in over 10 years, AJ Lee returns to in-ring action, this time, alongside CM Punk as they wage this war against WWE World Heavyweight and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch!
