"I am your favorite wrestler's favorite wrestler." AJ Lee's first promo on WWE television in over 10 years revealed new layers of her character and the best mic work of her career thus far. The returned star walked down the aisle to "Light it Up" in Milwaukee shortly after the top of the second hour of Raw on Netflix and reintroduced herself to the WWE universe.
Lee began the promo by introducing herself to those who were not around 10 years ago and explaining to younger fans why their millennial parents were "very excited" on Friday.
Lee stated, “I felt like I had accomplished all of my dreams in wrestling. I was content. I hung up my Chuck Taylors, and I thought that was the end of my story." She told fans there was "no way" she was going to step inside a ring again wearing jean shorts that are "two sizes too small."
After walking away from wrestling, she told the audience she went on a journey to accomplish other things — like becoming a New York Times best-selling author.
Notably, Lee spoke about her mental health journey in the promo.
She told fans, “I wasn’t healthy. I needed to take care of myself. I went to therapy.” In a first-time ever moment on WWE television (but probably not the last), a loud "Therapy!" chant broke out not once, but twice in the segment.
IN THIS HOUSE, WE CHEER FOR THERAPY!

Lee encouraged viewers by telling them, "The fight is not easy. Every day is a fight, but let me tell you, if you are going through the same thing, the fight is worth it. You are worth it."
Lynch was interrupted by Becky Lynch, who received loud heat from the Milwaukee crowd. Lynch was eventually joined by her husband, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, who attempted to retrieve Becky's Intercontinental Championship which was taken home by AJ after Friday's SmackDown, but was met from behind by CM Punk, who attempted a GTS on Rollins.
Lee officially challenged Lynch and Rollins to a tag team match at WWE WrestlePalooza, which will air from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Lee's promo immediately stands out as an all-star promo because of her tone, poise, depth of character, relatability, and bank of respect with the fans. Lee was still the lovable skipping version of herself we came to know 10 years ago, but she sounded different — she sounded mature. Lee has discovered new layers of herself outside of the ring and she returns bringing those layers to her on-screen character. This version of AJ Lee in WWE will be unlike what we have seen before — and it will be better.
