Fightful Select is confirming that the smoke-filled teaser on this past Friday's episode of SmackDown was indeed for the former NXT Champion and WWE star Aleister Black. Further reports now reveal an expected return date.
Cory Hays of PWNexus is reporting that Black is not expected to re-debut in WWE prior to WrestleMania 41. Some wonder if the "4" that was shown on his vignette was where the chapters in his last creative vignettes left off, the fact he's been gone for four years, or that he'll be back in four weeks. If the last, the expectation is the the next video will read the number three. This would mean his first appearance will likely come on the first Friday Night SmackDown after WrestleMania 41.
If the report is accurate, that would set his return date for the April 25 episode of SmackDown. That episode of SmackDown will be held at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, and be a loaded show featuring top stars such as WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Bianca Belair, Solo Sikoa, Kevin Owens, and U.S. Champion LA Knight.
His return to SmackDown makes sense, given that his wife Zelina Vega is on that brand. As for what WWE has in store creatively, that's yet to be clear. Future vignettes might offer a better indication of where WWE wants to take Black. He hasn't for WWE on the October 12, 2020, episode of Raw.
Following his departure, he wrestled as Malakai Black in AEW and led a faction called the House of Black. He might start a faction on SmackDown, but he's got the "it factor" that could see him become a legitimate top-level talent under the creative direction of Triple H.
WWE also aired a teaser vignette for Rey Fenix on SmackDown. That reveal was a lot more obvious, although it is not known what the date of his debut in WWE will be or if he'll join his brother Penta. Given that Penta is on Raw, it seems unlikely that the tag team will be reunited.
