NXT Homecoming was the first broadcast from Full Sail University since 2020. The University had been its full time home since the weekly television show began in 2012. However, when the COVID pandemic hit, WWE moved production to its current home, the WWE Performance Center.
During the special, past NXT wrestlers returned to compete in matches against wrestlers that are currently wrestling on the brand. One of those matches was Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, vs. The Culling’s Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley. Did the tag team titles come back to NXT for the first time since 2023, or did Bliss and Flair walk out still champions?
Dame and Paxley qualified for the title opportunity on the September 9, 2025 episode of NXT. They competed in a Triple Threat Tag Team elimination match to get their championship opportunity. The two women competed against and successfully beat Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx as well as Sol Ruca and Zaria. It was a very impressive victory, as the teams they beat both have a storied history as partners and have been together way longer than Dame and Paxley had. They have only been a team for a couple of months.
After Gigi Dolin and Shotzi were released, Paxley had to find some new friends. She started associating herself with The Culling, and the two have had success ever since. Winning the match showed they could work well under pressure. But would it be enough to capture the Women’s Tag Team titles?
The match started off strong, with Bliss and Flair showing why they’re champions, and Dame and Paxley showing why they won the elimination match last week. They traded blows back and forth, with each woman not giving up without a fight. The pivotal moment came when Flair and Dame went outside the ring, leaving Bliss and Paxley alone. Paxley jumped off the ring post into a 450 splash, but couldn’t connect. She then ran straight into a Sister Abigail from Bliss, who got the pin and the victory.
It was a hard fought battle, but in the end, Bliss and Flair walked away still the WWE Women’s Tag Team champions. Sadly, it looks like an NXT team won’t be holding the belts unless they make another challenge. It would be nice to see that though, as the belts haven’t been NXT exclusive since the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships got unified with the current titles. Bliss and Flair survived a very hungry NXT team, giving everything they had to retain their championship titles.
