After the status of the Women’s World Championship being in limbo for a while due to Naomi vacating for a valid reason, her pregnancy, the fate of the championship was decided on Saturday night at WWE Wrestlepalooza. Stephanie Vaquer and former champion IYO SKY battled it out in a blockbuster dream match that undoubtedly stole the show.

Both women had quite a claim on who should be the Women’s World Champion. IYO SKY could make the argument that, despite the nature of the Money in the Bank contract and the fact that she did the same thing, she deserved to get a rematch for the title that she lost in a blindside back at WWE Evolution.

That said, Stephanie Vaquer also deserves a shot at holding the gold because on the same night, Stephanie Vaquer faced a sea of formidable foes in the Evolution Battle Royal, guaranteeing her a shot at the WWE Women’s World Championship at WWE Clash in Paris. Of course, with all things considered, her opportunity got postponed.

With months of uncertainty behind both of them, IYO SKY and Stephanie Vaquer got to work in Indianapolis, Indiana, battering each other like their careers depended on it; in a way, it did depend on it, considering what was on the line. These women put it all out there in a fantastic display of skill.

Vaquer and SKY would not let up one bit, trading shot for shot. Towards the end of the match, when SKY thought it was all said and done, she would go for the Over the Moonsault, only to be met with a boot to the face. Vaquer went after the knee again, a part of SKY’s anatomy that she worked over all night, which led to a Devil’s Kiss and an SVB for a near fall.

SKY would lay it all on the line, exposing her injured knee to drive it into the face of Vaquer multiple times. SKY would once again try for Over the Moonsault, and once again, she missed. Vaquer would end the affair with her version of the Spiral Tap, made famous by AJ Styles, to become #AndNEW WWE Women’s World Champion.

Congratulations to La Primera, our new WWE Women’s World Champion!
