Another WWE Star Suffers Shoulder Injury
Sheamus WWE Raw

WWE are heading into the new year with three high-profile members of their roster enduring shoulder injuries and Sheamus has become the latest to be struck by the injury curse. The Celtic Warrior is set to be out of action for months, in a massive blow for the wrestler and the company.

Sheamus Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Sheamus has dealt with several injuries in recent years, and that includes a serious neck injury that threatened to end his career. He is now facing several months away from the ring due to a shoulder injury, which comes just ahead of the Road to WrestleMania 42.

PWInsider reports that the 47-year-old underwent successful surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday. He hadn't competed since teaming with John Cena in his last WWE RAW match in November at Madison Square Garden.

Sheamus' wife, Isabella Revilla-Farrelly, confirmed her husband had recieved treatment with a post on Instagram which shows the Irish wrestler wearing a sling. She wrote:

"When I told my husband I wanted to go on one last trip before the end of the year, this is NOT what I meant.. From the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the Trevi Fountain in Rome to La Sagrada Família in Barcelona to… the Birmingham Surgery Center in Alabama — I’m honestly just happy to travel with him."

Sheamus' injury follows that of Dominik Mysterio, who also picked up a shoulder issue at AAA Guerra de Titanes earlier this month. Fortunately for the Intercontinental Champion, he reportedly doesn't appear to require surgery and will be cleared by the Royal Rumble week, with the PLE taking place on January 31st, per Fightful Select.

Penta just returned from the same sort of issue this week on WWE RAW after he injured himself against Solo Sikoa in the Last Time is Now tournament. The former AEW star was pulled from a Lucha Brothers reunion at the AAA show as a result but is back and got physical on Monday night.

Another WWE star who is recovering is Seth Rollins and he went under the knife in October after injuring himself in a match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel. He was forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship and his status for WrestleMania in April is uncertain.

Sheamus Not Thinking About Retirement

Sheamus remains one of WWE's most popular stars and is now a veteran in the locker room which makes his absence a setback for reasons beyond being unable to compete. But he was upbeat about continuing his career into the distant future despite the recurring injury problems that are occurring.

He spoke to Chris Van Vliet on Insight in January and was asked whether he ever thinks about retirement:

"Not really. Again, I just signed a new five-year deal. [So that'll take you into your 50s?] Yeah, my wife reminds me all the time, 52. Listen, I'll go till the wheels fall off me. [I] could do it until physically I can't do it anymore. I love what I do, and listen, there's plenty of time to sit back and read a book and just watch TV."

Sheamus has enjoyed a phenomenal career which has seen him become a four-time world champion in WWE. He's been with the promotion since 2009 and done it all including winning the Royal Rumble.
