On the May 7, 2025 episode of AEW Dynamite, emanating from the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Michigan, MJF got one step closer to joining Bobby Lashley, MVP and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Syndicate. For weeks, MJF has been trying to impress and convince each member to agree to him officially joining the faction, though he’s had trouble when it comes to Lashley. On Dynamite, MJF displayed his more violent side, picking apart Top Flight in a brutal attack to prove that he can ‘Hurt People’.
Lashley revealed that he’d give his answer next week when AEW heads to the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. It feels as though that the next big angle in this storyline will take place on this show, and there are several booking options for AEW, which we will explore here.
Back in 2020, MJF was begging to join The Inner Circle, eventually being let into the group before working hard to plant seeds of descent and attempt to break it down from within. When The Inner Circle saw through his plans, MJF revealed that he’d been working in the shadows to form The Pinnacle, taking down The Inner Circle in a stunning segment. History may repeat itself with this storyline.
Both MJF and FTR have uttered the word ‘pinnacle’ on AEW programming in recent months, perhaps teasing a reunion to pull the same trick again. FTR’s new manager, Stokely Hathaway, also has a history with MJF, so this could make even more sense. There are plenty of other names who would suit joining MJF in AEW in a brand new faction, taking on The Hurt Syndicate over the next few months.
Everyone is expecting some sort of swerve when it comes to the storyline involving MJF and The Hurt Syndicate, but one booking option could be the group simply accepting MJF’s pitch to join and bringing him into the fold.
It would certainly be strange to see MJF working in line with The Hurt Syndicate, but it would be a direction no one sees coming. Ultimately, MJF’s desire to win the AEW World Championship, and the trio of Lashley, Benjamin and MVP could do exactly that for him, giving him the army necessary to fend off all of those across the AEW roster, all the while MJF ensures that they keep strong hold over the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
When The Hurt Syndicate finally provides MJF with his answer to joining the group, they may already have a plan in place. MVP has been open to bringing in new members, but hasn’t yet found someone worthy enough of a place at their side. Due to MJF’s history of betrayals, he could then get betrayed himself.
As MJF waits for an answer, a new member could either be brought out or else attack him from behind. Earlier this year, Cedric Alexander was released from WWE, and it is soon time for his non-compete clause to expire, meaning that he is available for hire. The May 14 episode of Dynamite will see him an official free agent, and given his history as part of WWE’s ‘Hurt Business’, he may be drafted in instead of MJF. This booking option could see it be Alexander or someone else on the AEW roster, as there are several names waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
A different booking option in terms of MJF eventually joining The Hurt Syndicate could see it be less simple than just an acceptance into the faction. He’s had to run through several hoops already, and The Hurt Syndicate could provide him with one final test.
Bobby Lashley been the one who has had the biggest issue with MJF joining, so an ultimatum and challenge could be set for the upcoming Double Or Nothing PPV - if MJF beats Bobby Lashley in a singles match, he can join, and if he fails, he is banned from the group. This would provide the card with a first-time ever singles match between two top stars.
