Bully Ray Supports WWE’s Decision to Rename NXT vs TNA Event to 'Showdown'

WWE has officially renamed its next NXT vs TNA premium live event, renaming Invasion to Showdown. The move was met with a lot of debate among the fans and people involved in the industry. Wrestling veteran Bully Ray is also the one to support this initiative. He said that the old name never fit the plot and wrote how Showdown was a far better representation of the competition between the two brands.

Bully Ray Doubts the Invasion Concept

Bully Ray, a veteran of wrestling, talked about the choice to go with Busted Open After Dark and said that the Invasion branding name never worked with the plot. He pointed out that months before, NXT and TNA were already working together. The word invasion was not the correct thing to call it. Bully Ray clarified that the two brands were collaborating, not facing an invasion from one another.

Angles of Invasion Not the same as Classic Invasion Angles

Bully Ray also emphasized that this plot was unlike anything that had ever existed during previous wrestling invasions, such as the famous WCW/ECW vs WWE angle. Rather than a hostile takeover or surprise attack, NXT and TNA had established a working relationship that had just begun to show tension. He felt it wasn’t a true invasion storyline but more about a strained partnership.
