Having spent over a decade in WWE, Charlotte Flair has all the wisdom that she needs as she grows older. But, at the age of 39, are the wheels really starting to come off for her? One would imagine there’s some truth to it. However, ‘The Queen’ believes that’s the depressing reality of the women in the wrestling industry today.
In her piece with The Players’ Tribune, the fourteen-time women’s champion underscored the stifling dichotomy between the people’s perception of aging in women as compared to men. Flair said that she’s considered old by some of her peers, no matter if she’s younger than the company’s top stars like Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.
For men — and I say this with so much respect for the guys I just mentioned — there’s no such thing as “aging out.” For WOMEN, though?? The rules are just different. For women, as depressing as it sounds, I think a lot of people still only know ONE way to value them: as young and disposable.

‘The Nature Girl’ also cited the examples of CM Punk, 46, and John Cena, 48, both of whom headlined WrestleMania this year. Flair, while giving the aforementioned names all due respect, said that there’s no such thing as aging for male wrestlers in this business.
On the other hand, the playbook is entirely different for the women, who, as per ‘The Queen’, are only valued when young and disposable. And that’s what sounds depressing to the daughter of Ric Flair.
Charlotte Flair addresses the way people view age of women vs the age of men:

“I’m 39. But as a female wrestler who’s pushing 40, I promise you, there are people in this industry who already consider me old. Nevermind that I’m literally younger than Cody, who is considered the… pic.twitter.com/jXg78mxfR5
There’s not even a shadow of doubt that ‘The Genetically Superior Athlete’ wrote her heart out in the aforementioned column. Having shared the locker room with a ton of women who’ve come and gone by, Flair is privy to the ins and outs of what goes on behind those curtains. The issue that she has highlighted is being backed by the majority of the fans, as evident by the comments all over social media.
Ronda Rousey bowed out of WWE on not the best terms. However, in her heyday, she had some trailblazing moments and career-defining feuds, like the one with Charlotte Flair. They faced off against each other on five different occasions, with three one-on-one matches in the mix.
However, the most notable of those will forever be the main event of WrestleMania 35, where Rousey, Flair, and Becky Lynch collided in a triple-threat showdown. Flair recently claimed that their match wouldn’t have closed out WrestleMania if it wasn’t for Rousey.
In her Players’ Tribune write-up, ‘The Queen’ didn’t miss out on crediting ‘The Baddest Woman on the Planet’ for putting women in the main event of WWE’s greatest spectacle. Flair mentioned Rousey’s UFC stardom was the game changer for the women, who headlined multiple PPVs that sold over a million buys, a feat that remains unbroken in women’s MMA.
The UFC legend carried it over to WWE after joining the promotion in 2018. She broke new ground when Rousey became the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in the same year.
Charlotte Flair wishes people would give Ronda Rousey her due for putting women in the main event:

“I don’t think Ronda gets enough credit for WWE putting women in the main event. A lot of things about the women’s revolution might be true, but this is definitely true: Ronda… pic.twitter.com/xQD6dPqe0J
Flair noted how the US women’s soccer team and pro athletes like Serena Williams being draws helped the women get their due recognition in sports as a whole. However, when it comes to WWE looking at women as potential WrestleMania main eventers, Rousey played a pivotal role in that, regurgitated the 14-time women’s champion.
After coming back from a lengthy injury layoff, Charlotte Flair won the 30-woman Royal Rumble match to seal her WrestleMania fate. The decision had already enraged fans, so they started treating Flair as the heel when she was, at the time, a babyface. ‘The Queen’ would go on to choose Tiffany Stratton as the champion she wanted to wrestle at ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All.’
Their feud wasn’t moving anyone until their infamous shoot-like promo segment in Chicago. They met on SmackDown, and their face-off went completely off the rails. Things started going haywire when Stratton joked about Flair’s three-time divorcee past.
Charlotte Flair opens up about the infamous segment with Tiffany Stratton in Chicago and how she was legit rocked by Stratton’s “0-3 record at marriages” line:

‘The Queen’ addressed that part in her Players’ Tribune note by saying that the line rocked her. She wasn’t expecting it to come up during a scripted promo designed to advance her feud with ‘The Buff Barbie.’ Flair obviously wasn’t proud of an entire arena mocking her for something that still was devastating to her.
