Since returning to WWE, CM Punk's in-ring opportunities have been limited due to injury. He suffered a torn right triceps during Royal Rumble 2024. Since then, Punk has been limited to small contact segments with the rest of his appearances being based on pushing his storylines further.
However, Punk hasn't been taking it easy. He's reportedly been working behind the scenes and developing relationships throughout the company. During a recent interview with "Ringside Collectables" at San Diego Comic-Con, Punk praised the WWE locker room for being the most creative he's ever been a part of.
"Creatively speaking, this is the most fruitful, creative locker room that I think I’ve ever been in," Punk said. "Ideas aren’t ignored and shot down, and people are eager to share ideas. So somebody someday could have a brilliant idea that’s something that I have blinders on and can’t see, and I would be receptive to any of the ideas as long as they’re good.”
Punk has a reputation for being a locker-room distraction. His public exit from AEW didn't help his cause, either. However, his return to WWE has been smooth. He's reportedly been open to providing advice to younger talents and has consistently praised the company under Paul Levesque's leadership.
Nevertheless, fans will want to see the superstar back in the ring as soon as possible. Punk may be an expert at cutting promos and he may be enjoying a calm period within the company, but he is still at his most valuable when he's wrestling on a consistent basis. His feud with Drew McIntyre has the potential to be electric and is capable of generating millions of impressions across social media.
Still, hearing Punk praise the locker room and embrace the creativity on offer within the company is encouraging. He still has a lot left in the tank and if he can stick with WWE moving forward, he could remain at the top of his game for years to come.
All he has to do is avoid another messy exit. So far, that seems like it's more than possible.
