Two of WWE's top Superstars have cut some very real-feeling promos recently. First Cody Rhodes on SmackDown, and then CM Punk on Raw last night. Among some of the many comments Punk made was one calling on TKO and Ari Emanuel to drop WWE's ticket prices, and it may have been a sign that that's exactly what the company plans to do.
"You want to talk about ticket sales? Do me a favor. Call up that agent that was foolish enough to shoehorn you into this business and this show and tell him to lower the ticket prices," were among the heated words Punk said as part of a promo that opened on Raw on Monday night. Those words were directed at Pat McAfee, and the agent he is referring to is presumably TKO CEO Emanuel.
While Punk was likely given a certain level of freedom to go out there and say what he likes - since that's what he does best - a report from Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez immediately following Raw suggests there are plans for WWE ticket price cuts in place. If so, that's probably why Punk was given the green light to make that comment.
The only downside is that while Punk was referencing WrestleMania 42's ticket prices, which have been a cause of concern for months, Alvarez claims the ticket prices aren't an immediate concern. The plans are for later in the year, likely over the summer, which means, despite struggling to shift tickets for its biggest show of the year, which is now less than two weeks away, WWE isn't going to cave and sell WrestleMania tickets for less.
The last we heard, this year's WrestleMania ticket sales are lagging behind where they were this time last year. At the end of March, fewer than 40,000 tickets had been sold for night one, and a little over 40,000 tickets had been sold for night two. The stadium in which WrestleMania is taking place has a capacity of 65,000.
Triple H has announced that the split detailing which matches will be happening on each night will be revealed today. There will likely be a hope that revealing that information will result in a ticket sales spike. It makes sense, as any fans who can only afford to attend one night might be waiting to see where the matches fall so they can make sure they're seeing as many of their favorite Superstars as possible.
