If there’s one rivalry that has defined WWE’s modern era, it’s undoubtedly Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns. The two megastars have stood as the company’s ultimate babyface-and-heel pairing, headlining back-to-back, record-breaking WrestleMania events. Since returning to WWE in 2022, ‘The American Nightmare’ had one clear mission: to become the first member of the legendary Rhodes family to capture a WWE world championship.
Their first showdown came in the main event of WrestleMania 39, where Reigns, aided by The Bloodline, handed Rhodes a crushing defeat in one of the most talked-about finishes in recent history. Rhodes spent the following year clawing his way back to the top, winning a second straight Royal Rumble to secure a rematch.
The payoff came in storybook fashion when he finally pinned Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, ending a historic 1,316-day reign that began at Payback 2020. The rivalry’s grand conclusion wasn’t just about two men, as it became a generational moment, featuring appearances from present and future legends such as John Cena, The Rock, The Undertaker, and Seth Rollins.
And with Reigns currently on his own babyface run and Rhodes recapturing the WWE title at SummerSlam, fans have been waiting to see the legendary duo collide in what could be a fitting end to a rivalry which currently sits at 1-1. However, it seems that it might never happen. In a recent appearance on the SI Media podcast, Rhodes was asked about the possibility of a third match with ‘The Tribal Chief.’
I’m very happy with what we put out there. I always try to wax poetic about him, anytime I’ve ever said something a little snarky, I guess it’s been more for entertainment. But I can tell you that’s probably a very hard match to have happen.

As already stated, Reigns turned face after his SummerSlam return last year and even teamed with Rhodes to battle The New Bloodline, led by Solo Sikoa, at Bad Blood. Because of these developments, many fans believe Rhodes would need to turn heel to make a third clash between them compelling.
But I could see it being very significant, it happening again. And for the fans who really make this all up… for that, you can’t just have two, you know? We split it. So that third exists. And a lot of times, sometimes matches can go in the file of the greatest match that never happened. I’m certainly not adverse to it. I don’t know what his outlook on it is. We’re different than we were. And again, not adverse to it, because we’re split. He won one, I won the other.

At this point, Rhodes is potentially headed to Clash in Paris to defend his gold against Drew McIntyre, while Reigns may face Bronson Reed at the same PLE. It will be interesting to see if the two titans ever collide again in the coming months.
As WWE Champion, media appearances and public events come with the territory. But when you’re the company’s top star, that responsibility goes to another level, something Cody Rhodes knows all too well. Now in his second reign as champion, ‘The American Nightmare’ handles a heavy share of the company’s media work.
However, Rhodes has made it clear he has certain boundaries when it comes to signing autographs. In his SI Media interview, he explained his stance.
If I’m by myself and I’ve flown into an airport offsite, that the only way you would know is if you looked up my manifest… that is definitely going to come with a snarkier version of me.

Rhodes admitted he’s not a fan of people tracking his flight information just to get items signed for resale. Still, he usually signs to end the encounter quickly. While he’s willing to put up with professional autograph hunters, there’s one situation where his answer will always be no.
My only no is if I’m with the kiddo… It’s not possible in this moment. That is her time. And I have to give her ‘her’ time, that’s my daughter.

Beyond being the face of WWE, Rhodes is first and foremost a family man. Over the years, fan signings have sometimes been marred by hounding and even poor behavior from disrespectful members of the pro wrestling industry, making his stance all the more understandable.
