Cody Rhodes makes stunning revelation regarding AEW exit

Cody Rhodes was once the face of AEW. The American Nightmare helped found the rapidly growing organization and was one of its executive vice presidents (EVPs.) However, in February 2022, Rhodes called time on his career with AEW, choosing to return to the WWE.

During a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Rhodes discussed his decision to leave AEW, noting how it was the 'easiest thing' he ever did.

"No, it was the easiest thing I ever did," Rhodes told Sean Neumann of GQ. "And it's because I had a personal issue that I wasn't going through, over, or around. I was just going to steer clear of it. If anything, I wanted to look at what we had done at AEW and say, “Amazing, what a wonderful time, a beautiful memory, and very special in every way. And now it's time to move on.” You know, all good things. And it certainly was like that with me. So I mean it not in a negative way, like I was happy to burn rubber and speed out, but it just wasn't a decision that was difficult for me at all."

During his tenure with AEW, Rhodes lifted the TNT championship on three occasions but is yet to hold a belt since his return to the WWE. Nevertheless, Rhodes has found himself becoming one of the WWE's top stars since his return and is set to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Of course, Rhodes will be hoping the story then shifts towards a potential rematch against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania in the spring—assuming Reigns overcomes Jay Uso at SummerSlam—so that he can continue his climb toward becoming a world champion.

SummerSlam is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5, and projects to be one of the biggest wrestling events of the calendar year thus far. Yet for Rhodes, it's just another opportunity to show why he's one of the hottest commodities in the world of wrestling and will continue to be for years to come.
