Conference realignment is a reality of college athletics, and it's come for college football once again this season.
Though the changes taking effect for 2026 — which go into place today — are not as numerous nor impactful as they were in 2024, this is still a busier reshuffling than we saw last summer. In total, 11 programs changed conferences and two transitioned from the FCS to the FBS, bringing the membership total to 138.
The Power 4 conferences remain unchanged, but the Pac-12 has been almost completely remade around holdovers Oregon State and Washington State. The MAC, Mountain West, Conference USA and Sun Belt also saw additions or subtractions to their conference membership, leaving the American as the lone Group of 6 league untouched by realignment in this cycle.
Here is a list of the updated conference affiliations for the 10 FBS leagues.
