Two former WWE Superstars, Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler, made their brief returns over the last week due to the Last Time Is Now Tournament. The recent tournament was to see who would face John Cena on December 13. One former WWE star, David Otunga, who was part of the once-heel stable Nexus, recently spoke with podcaster Chris Van Vliet about whether he would ever return to the company.
On the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the lawyer and former wrestler was asked if he would be interested in ever returning to WWE. From the sounds of it, he has no issues with the company and would "absolutely" come back to WWE.
“Yeah. I mean If they called, yeah, absolutely. Like I said, it was so much fun. Although now I’m still doing announcing with 4th Rope, Westside Gunn and Smoke DZA’s [indie] promotion, which has been awesome. Otunga wrestled from 2009 to 2015. His last match ever was a loss to R-Truth on July 5, 2015, during the WWE Live SummerSlam Heatwave Tour. From 2015 to 2020, until he was released during the COVID-19 pandemic releases, he was a commentator and pre-show panelist.
While Otunga was with WWE, he actually held the WWE Tag Team Titles twice, and one of those times was with John Cena. Granted, it wasn’t a very long reign — one day. They defeated Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes at Bragging Rights 2010. The next night on WWE Raw, they lost the titles to Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel because Cena left his partner. This was when Cena was forced to join Nexus.
In honor of yesterday, Monday, November 17, being Cena’s last WWE Raw appearance of his career, Otunga brought up their short-lived title reign. He took to Instagram, writing:
“In honor of this being the last #WWERaw for #JohnCena - let’s not forget when he walked out on me after we won the #WWE tag team titles together!”
Otunga’s other tag team title reign lasted much longer, eighty days, and it was with former WWE star Michael McGillicutty, aka Curtis Axel. So while he doesn’t wrestle anymore, there are other things that Otunga can do in WWE, especially if he wants to be part of Cena’s final WWE days. Though those days are running out...
