Two intense title matches, new challengers stepping up, and big announcements shook Korakuen Hall, as DDT presented ROCK IN RING 2025 yesterday. The fans were treated to another spectacular show featuring Kazusada Higuchi and Minoru Suzuki’s title defenses and Kasei Takechi and Haruto Sakuraba in separate tags. Here are the results and a recap of the show’s highlights.
Kazusada Higuchi clinched his first successful title defense in his second reign as the KO-D Openweight Champion after defeating Harashima in the main event. The challenger wrestled a nearly perfect match-up until the final moments, but Higuchi was able to use his size and strength advantage to pull out the win and beat him for the fifth time in six matches.
The champion didn’t have much time to savor his victory, as another challenger in the form of the legendary Jun Akiyama arrived. The match will happen on day one of Wrestle Peter Pan on August 30, marking the second time they will face one another for DDT’s biggest prize in four years. Additionally, General Manager Imabayashi announced that there will be a battle royal on July 16 to determine who will face the winner of their match on day two.
Minoru Suzuki successfully defended his DDT Universal Championship for the third time after beating Shinya Aoki in their first-ever singles match. Both men showcased their exceptional grappling skills and unleashed stiff strikes, but in the end, Suzuki emerged victorious via a referee stoppage.
After the match, Suzuki took the mic and proceeded to enumerate all three challengers that he took down until former two-time Universal champion MAO interrupted him. He will look to dethrone Suzuki on day two of Wrestle Peter Pan on August 31.
The two famous Japanese celebrities in DDT’s roster wrestled on the same card for the first time, but both yielded different results. While he looked like an absolute beast in only his second match ever, Haruto Sakuraba was on the losing end of a six-man tag, after his fellow Damnation T.A. member Ilusion got pinned by MAO.
On the other hand, Kaisei Takechi of the J-Pop group “The RAMPAGE” remains undefeated in his young pro-wrestling career after being on the winning side of another six-man tag. He teamed up with Yuki Ueno and Akito to beat Damnation T.A.’s Daisuke Sasaki, Hideki Okatani, and MJ Paul.
