Higuchi Defeats Akiyama, Will Defend Against Ueno on Day 2

Kazusada Higuchi retained against Jun Akiyama in the main event, making his second successful defense of the KO-D Openweight Championship in his second reign. He will go on and defend it again against Yuki Ueno in the main event of day two at Korakuen Hall.

Akiyama proved to be a tough customer, giving Higuchi a hard time. The legend showed fire, but the champion refused to stay down and eventually put his fire out to prevail.

Looking ahead to his next challenger, Higuchi and Ueno have a 3-2 singles match record, with the former holding the slight edge. They last wrestled each other at the semifinal of this year’s King of DDT tournament back in May.

While the champion does have more wins over him, Ueno is not just any opponent, as he is also a former KO-D Openweight champ himself, holding the title once before and successfully defending it seven times. Can he tie their singles match record and reclaim the top spot in DDT once again, or will Higuchi be able to dig deep once more to remain champion?

The Apex Prevails Over Damnation T.A., Will Defend Against HARASHIMA & Aoki on Day 2

The team, led by The Apex of Yuki Iino and Yukio Naya, retained the KO-D Tag Team titles against Daisuke Sasaki and Hideki Okatani, who represented Damnation T.A. It is their second successful defense following their first last July 27 against Jun Akiyama and Daichi Sato.

Sasaki and Okatani resorted to the usual underhanded Damnation methods with the help of their stablemates, MJ Paul and Ilusion. However, Naya proved to be too tough as he withstood a furious kendo stick attack by Okatani behind the referee’s back and eventually got the victory.

With this win, their match against “Mr. DDT” HARASHIMA and Shinya Aoki on day two will now be a title match as well. Their challengers have teamed up many times throughout the years, but it will be their first time contending for the tag titles.

Although it is their first time to challenge for the tag titles, their combined abilities are enough to deem them worthy opponents. While they do have the size and strength advantage against most of the teams that they’ll face, The Apex will have to be at their best to defeat HARASHIMA and Aoki.

TMDK Wins, Brookes Challenges ZSJ to Singles Match at Ultimate Party

IWGP World Heavyweight champion Zack Sabre Jr. and Kosei Fujita were victorious over Chris Brookes and Takeshi Masada in their interpromotional tag match. After the match, Brookes challenged Sabre to a singles match, which the latter promptly accepted.

The match is booked for DDT Ultimate Party on November 3rd. It will be their first singles match in Japan and also their first one in seven years.

In another title match on the card, To-y also remained the DDT Extreme champion after defeating Yuya Koroku in a match where the two had to accumulate “life points” through social media impressions. The rule was one life point per 10,000 impressions, and on the day of the show, it was the champion who had three more points than his challenger (23-20).

The first to reduce their opponent’s life points to zero will win, and this can be achieved through falls, submissions, or throwing, pushing, or pulling your opponent out of the ring. After the match, Ilusion attacked both men and declared himself To-y’s next challenger, with the match happening on September 14.
