The speculation around who will face John Cena in his final WWE match just got a major jolt — and The Rock seemed to hint in a recent interview that he would like to be the guy to stand face to face with the G.O.A.T.
THE ROCK THINKS HE SHOULD BE JOHN CENA FINAL OPPONENT 👀“I have a little influence in the bookingâ€(New Heights Podcast)pic.twitter.com/Uarbhf4hO6— FADE (@FadeAwayMedia) October 13, 2025
On a recent episode of the New Heights Podcast, the 12-time world champion acknowledged he has some input in the booking of Cena’s farewell bout, but emphasized that the ultimate decision rests with Cena himself.
“I have a tiny bit of influence in the booking of it, but it really is just whoever John wants,” The Rock said. “It’s not me, Nick Khan, or Triple H. That guy has earned it, and you know what, the best part about John is, he comes as advertised. Who you think he is, that’s who he is, and he’s a good dude. I love that guy.”
The subtle part of the interview was perhaps the most interesting. When The Rock was asked about Cena's final opponent, he shrugged and tucked at his shirt, letting out a bit of a grunt to suggest that everyone might be looking at the guy to take that spot. It's unclear if that was The Rock joking or if he was legitimately saying he'd like to be the final opponent at Saturday Night's Main Event in December.
If WWE, The Rock, and Cena went that route, it would be a polarizing decision.
The Rock vs. John Cena would arguably be the biggest match WWE could put together. They are two of the biggest marquee draws in wrestling and they have a storied history, even getting involved in an angle when Cena turned heel earlier this year. Damian Priest, for one, believes Cena vs. The Rock would be a fitting send-off. “Just as a fan, and because of what they've meant to the business, hell, why not be Rock?” Priest said on the Kairouz Bros podcast. "Go big — you know, go the biggest you can right now. And who's a bigger star on this planet than The Rock?”
Others hate the idea. Some fans know that The Rock coming back after abandoning the heel turn angle, just to get the spot other wrestlers might deserve against Cena would be a level of narcissism and politicking on another level. It would make little sense creatively, especially if The Rock couldn't allocate the time needed to have the story make sense.
While nothing is official yet, The Rock’s comments leave the door wide open.
