  • Goldberg is set to return to WWE on Raw challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
  • WWE is working on a creative plan for Goldberg's return, indicating a major storyline with Gunther.
  • Goldberg plans on having a final retirement match but faces challenges due to his physical limitations.

Wednesday afternoon, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg teased his return to the company, posting, "WHO’S NEXT!!" on his social media profile. News that Goldberg is set to return this coming Monday on Raw is also making the rounds.

Goldberg Reportedly Set For Next Monday's Raw

Goldberg is expected to appear regularly on Raw leading into WWE’s weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, in July, per PW Insider. This Monday's show emanates from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Goldberg may show up to challenge new World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The match between these two was teased the last time WWE was in Atlanta, and Goldberg had announced after that appearance that he worked out a deal with WWE to have one final run with the company so he could have a proper retirement match.

The fact that Goldberg is reportedly set to appear on several shows leading up to the Atlanta show suggests that WWE is working a creative plan to have Goldberg work a prominent storyline with Gunther, not just pushing for a one-off match that will see him show up once, wrestle, and then hang up his boots.

WWE will be in Atlanta for the Great American Bash on July 12, giving the company a good month to develop some intriguing and entertaining angles.

Goldberg Is Saying Goodbye The Right Way

It's unlikely Goldberg will win that retirement match, but going out with a banger versus one of the toughest men in WWE is a great way to go. It will be intriguing to see if the creative team books a shorter match, something Goldberg became known for at the height of his popularity, or if they try to pull a longer match out of him with a savvy ring performer like Gunther.

The latter is a bit of a risk given that Goldberg often struggles with longer matches and he's going to be working on his conditioning so that he can pull off one final bout. That said, putting him in the ring with the Ring General is the safest bet to ensure that the match isn't a total disaster. It's the bad matches that Goldberg wants to erase from the memory of the WWE Universe. It stands to reason that WWE and the two men will work extremely hard to ensure this build-up and eventual match go as smoothly as possible.

Goldberg has already talked about his limits physically, so this is going to pose a challenge for all involved.
