'Has To Turn' - Fans React as Cody Rhodes’ WWE Saturday Nights Main Event Match Announced

Cody Rhodes will be defending his WWE Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event on November 1st following an announcement from SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis. The American Nightmare will come up against a familiar face and it's fair to say fans want a massive twist to occur.

"Needs To Lose" - Fans React To Cody Rhodes' SNME Match

Drew McIntyre will get another opportunity at dethroning Rhodes when they meet again in Salt Lake City for the gold. The Scottish Warrior fell short at Wrestlepalooza with the title on the line in a finish that led to frustration amongst fans.

The Scotsman hasn't backed down from targeting the WWE Championship and a rematch comes following an injury to Jacob Fatu. He was set to enter a rivalry with the Samoan Werewolf but Fatu is taking time off due to dental work.

It means McIntyre could finally take home the title that he's long desired and held during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he earned rave reviews for putting WWE on his back. But he faces the current top babyface in the company and many envision the gold won't be changing hands as much as they want it to.

One fan responded to the match announcement:

"As a Drew fan , I am letting you all know that , I have no expectations from this match. And Drew’s gonna loose, again , sadly. And I have been clamouring for Drew to have a World Title reign but the management is all delusional."

Another fan isn't getting their hopes up:

"Can’t wait for another burial match of Drew….."

One added:

"Put the title on Drew and watch this company come back to life."

Another feels Rhodes' current reign isn't delivering:

"Love Cody, but his second title reign is falling about his flat as you can possibly get. That's not entirely his fault, but there's no juice or excitement behind his reign and it needs to end. Drew has been selfless long enough and it's time for him to shine."

One interesting subplot in the rivalry between Rhodes and McIntyre is the prescence of Randy Orton, who has been supporting the champion in his feud. But The Viper has been spotted several times gazing at the WWE Championship with many expecting a potential betrayal.

That's how one fan feels the title match should go down:

"Drew better win this time, if not than Randy has to turn heel and not keep dragging it out."

Another added:

"We all knew that was gonna happen but Randy need to be included in this storyline I’m sorry."

One feels Orton may enter the title picture after SNME:

"Spoiler alert: Randy will interfere ending the match no contest, leading to triple threat at survivor series."

Rhodes has been WWE Champion since SummerSlam when he won the title back from John Cena in the main event. He has since been feuding with McIntyre and constantly got the better of the Scot.

WWE To Amend Wrestlepalooza Finish After Orton Pitch Snubbed

Rhodes and McIntyre had reportedly pitched for Orton to inadvertently cost his close friend the WWE Championship at Wrestlepalooza. This was turned down by WWE's creative team and instead they went with the champion retaining after a mistake made by the challenger.

This didn't sit well with fans who expected a shock ending to the first-ever PLE on ESPN, but were handed a very tame conclusion to the title match. Orton didn't even appear in Indianapolis and it was a poor way for the promotion to start their new partnership with ESPN.

WWE can right that wrong by taking Rhodes and McIntyre's pitch on board and using Orton in some fashion at SNME and give the match an intriguing finish. But there may be caution over booking a significant angle at a non-PLE.
