Unlike most wrestlers, Charlotte Flair has built a strong following among young fans, often seen taking pictures with them after matches. But how did she build such a loyal fanbase of kids who don’t even know that she is the daughter of the legendary Ric Flair?
Ahead of her match against Alexa Bliss for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in a fatal four-way at WrestleMania 42 Night 1 on April 18, 2026, Charlotte Flair spoke with Sports Illustrated about dealing with loss, pressure, and finding her identity beyond the Flair legacy.
“The irony is I never grew up wanting to be a Flair, like even what that meant. I didn’t even get that,” Charlotte Flair said, reflecting on how distant the family legacy once felt to her.

Then she continued, “Like my little brother Reid, who I dedicate my career to, he wanted to be a Flair. I didn’t get what being a Flair meant when I started wrestling. I had no idea even what my dad meant to the industry.”
Reid Flair, who passed away in 2013, dreamed of following in the footsteps of his father, Ric Flair, one of the greatest in wrestling history. In contrast, Charlotte Flair initially stayed away from wrestling, focusing on multiple sports, including gymnastics, basketball, volleyball with the Appalachian State Mountaineers women’s volleyball team, and cheerleading
She also earned a public relations degree from North Carolina State University before eventually stepping into the ring.
“So now, carving my own path and creating my own legacy, I think I am redefining what it means to be a Flair,” the 40-year-old said. She added, “Now, when there are little girls and little boys who don’t even know who my father is, what it means to be a Flair is going to be a totally different dynamic.”
And that shows in her connection with fans, as Charlotte often takes part in events for specially-abled children, a bond that clearly goes both ways, with many kids even dressing up as “The Queen” for Halloween.
Now, as her influence continues to grow beyond the ring, attention turns to Charlotte Flair’s ambitions off the mat.
During a recent appearance on Casuals with Katie Nolan, Charlotte Flair opened up about women’s sports and her future goals beyond wrestling.
“One of my goals is to invest in a female sports team,” the 14-time world champion revealed.
“Someone actually brought that opportunity up to me with one of the volleyball teams. Thinking about it. I know there’s a lot of opportunity with basketball and soccer at the moment, but with this new league for volleyball, too. So, that’s something in the future,” she further continued.
Beyond that, according to Sports Business Journal, the longtime WWE star has also made a six-figure investment in Self Care Is For Everyone, a company founded in 2018 to help normalize conversations around mental health for both athletes and the public.
So, do you think Charlotte Flair has successfully stepped out of Ric Flair’s shadow and built her own legacy?
