Brock Lesnar is currently 48 years old. Born on July 12, 1977, “The Beast” will turn 49 just weeks before WWE heads to SummerSlam in his adopted hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Speculation about Lesnar’s retirement began picking up after comments made by John Cena during a December interview with Chris Van Vliet.

While discussing their Wrestlepalooza program, Cena referenced building toward Lesnar “going into the sunset,” adding that it would happen soon—initially even pointing to Minnesota as a possible endpoint.

Although Cena later softened the location-specific remark, he doubled down on the idea that Lesnar’s exit is approaching “very soon.” Given Cena’s proximity to WWE’s top creative plans, the comment carried weight—and it helped spark the current wave of retirement buzz.

Is Brock Lesnar Going to Lose at WrestleMania?

Lesnar’s booking has only fueled the retirement narrative. He is set to face rising star Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42, a match widely viewed as a potential “passing of the torch” moment. Femi flattening Lesnar’s when accepting his open challenge was a deliberate move in that direction.

There have also been unverified rumors suggesting Lesnar may be reluctant to lose before officially retiring. However, those reports lack credible confirmation, leaving the outcome of the WrestleMania match uncertain.

If the bout delivers competitively, the result may ultimately be secondary. Both Lesnar and Femi stand to benefit—Lesnar by reinforcing his legacy, and Femi by sharing the spotlight on a massive stage.

Looking ahead, many still expect Lesnar’s final match to come against Gunther at SummerSlam, closing the book on one of WWE’s most dominant careers.
