On Monday night, Chad Gable returned to Raw. It felt like he appeared twice, first under a mask to interfere in a match between the LWO and New Day, but when he showed up the second time in a backstage interview with Cathy Kelly, he claimed the masked man wasn't him. She didn't believe him until she was caught off guard, and Gable appeared in the same shot as the assailant who was being taken away by security.
So, if it wasn't Chad Gable under the mask, who was it? From the most logical explanation to some wild theories, let's take a look at a few potential options.
Hey, wait a minute...#WWERawpic.twitter.com/ATPVwrCkv4— WWE (@WWE) March 11, 2025
The first thought here is that Chad Gable has added another member to the American Made stable. A group already consisting of The Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, there is always room for someone else. Perhaps, during his quest to find the answer to his problem and explore the Dark Arts of Lucha Libre, Gable might have met and recruited what could be the group's next member. If so, these two are working in tandem and trying to dupe everyone into believing the masked man was not Gable.
It remains to be seen whether this is a current member of the WWE roster, someone from NXT, or a short-term hire that Gable intends to dispatch when his master plan falls apart. The person under the mask is about the same size and build as Gable. That would limit it down to a few options, assuming WWE is planning to keep the frame of that person the same throughout however many appearances are made.
In what would feel like a stretch for the WWE Universe, is it possible that Gable isn't lying and has nothing to do with this masked person? There is a world in which another talent has taken issue with the LWO and is using Gable's search for answers as an opportunity strike. If this person is an opportunist and sees way to throw suspicions off of himself and onto Gable, it would be a stroke of genius. There were even some fans on social media wondering if this might be how WWE debuts Rey Fenix, who is rumored to be leaving AEW and headed to WWE.
If not someone like Fenix, is there someone who has a beef with the LWO? Is this someone that New Day knows? Would they have taken it upon themselves to mastermind this attack, knowing that the LWO would immediately look at Gable as the culprit and a quick win would come the way of Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston? It would be the ultimate heel move for two men who appear to have taken the lowest of roads with their turn.
What if this is Kurt Angle? It's not likely Angle is able to move like Gable did on Monday night, but the WWE legend has been vocal about his openness to work with Gable in the past. Angle also has a wild personalty and would absolutely be up for something like this.
The most obvious outcome here is that the masked man is, in fact, Chad Gable. Some poor enhancement talent might have been convinced to take the blame for something Gable obviously did, which was to jump the rail and cost Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee a victory.
Chad Gable's ability to make any storyline idea work is commendable. He might be having the time of his life with this idea and trying to pull off playing two characters at the same time and being seen in two places at once sounds like a lot of fun.
If he claims to have learned the Lucha secrets and has lost his sense of reality, it will be intriguing to see who he brings along for the ride. The fact that this person said, "Ahhh, GRACIAS!" instead of "Ahhh, thank you!" is icing on the cake for what should be a hilarious, creative option for a solid in-ring performer with tons of personality.
