Kevin Dunn recently gave his notice to WWE after being one of the most important and key figures in the company’s history.

Tenure

Dunn was one of Vince McMahon's most trusted employees, and he was one of the most influential people behind the scenes after decades of being with the company. Dunn oversaw the TV production.

It was said that Dunn told the company during Christmas week about his intentions to leave, with a big factor in his decision being the changes being made internally since TKO took over after the merger.

Vince McMahon has less power in the company than ever before, with Nick Khan handling the business side and Triple H in charge of creative. A source said that Dunn was "never going to do anything that was dictated" to him. He didn’t want to alter the production style compared to how he saw it, and it was a situation of the two sides having two different visions.

Internal reaction

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that they spoke with “several shocked talent, who had no idea of the move. Some in WWE think that his role will likely be divided, as several have trained in aspects of Dunn's role.”

People they heard from said that Dunn's say had decreased over the last year-plus with McMahon no longer in charge and that anyone taking over those roles would likely not have anywhere near the power Dunn once had.

Dunn had also missed more shows than usual and there were some in the company who believed some in the older guard of WWE would be scaled back in the future with the belief this was a major chip to fall.

Moving into the future

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Dunn is officially done with WWE.

“He will be done officially tomorrow at midnight [January 1] like a lot of other contracts that are up at the end of the year and not being renewed. The word would be retirement, you know? But look, when [Paul] Levesque came in, there were, essentially, when Levesque came in….Kevin Dunn for years, for years, I was told, essentially, like, ‘As long as Vince is there, Kevin Dunn will be there. And when Vince is gone, Kevin Dunn will be gone and Paul Levesque will bring in somebody else.’ And then when Vince was gone the first time in July, it was kind of like, and Kevin Dunn was not the only name, you know, I mean, there's several names that were told to me and, I go like, 'Does that mean Kevin Dunn's gone? Does that mean the other people are gone?’ For stock reasons, the idea of Paul coming in and emptying out a lot of people at once would not go well, stock market-wise, so it's going to be a slow process this will happen, but it will be one at a time, and it will not be soon. Then Vince got back into power. So now Vince does not have that power. And it was the end of the year.”

He added, “I mean, he's a wealthy, wealthy man and, you know, so whatever. So he'll be done in the wrestling business. And we'll see when the new production comes in if we notice a difference. I mean, we'll see. But he's done now. Yeah, officially.”

Major Update On A Potential Goldberg AEW Retirement Match

Major Update On A Potential Goldberg AEW Retirement Match

Few names are more synonymous with Turner wrestling than Goldberg. However, it doesn't appear the WCW legend is likely to get one more match on the platform with AEW. The WWE Hall of Famer wrapped up his career with a retirement match against Gunther. He would lose to the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Saturday Night's Main Event, seemingly bringing an end to his legendary in-ring career. Unfortunately, it does not appear all were happy with how the bout played out. Goldberg's retirement speech following the match was cut short due to broadcast restrictions, and while he had high praise for his opponent, he expressed major unhappiness about he match itself and its presentation. He made several thinly veiled shots at WWE management for the lack of promotion for the match, and expressed being upset over it not taking place on a Premium Live Event. Could a potential Goldberg match in AEW happen? The talk of his displeasure with the match immediately led to rumors over whether or not Tony Khan and AEW would bring Goldberg in to give him a more fitting sendoff. He made his name on the Turner platform while a member of the WCW roster, so a return to the airwaves on Dynamite or Collision could potentially bring synergy. That, though, appears unlikely. WrestleVotes reported on Thursday that AEW sources indicated there is no direct connection between AEW and Goldberg at the moment. It reports the 58-year-old is still believed to be a under WWE contract as is, so any contact would be risky territory for either side. Additionally, said sources noted it would be surprising to see AEW move towards bringing Goldberg in given its good standing with fans following AEW All In: Texas. AEW, of course, did serve as the landing space for Sting's legendary retirement run, one that came to a close at AEW Revolution in 2024. It is also not clear as to whether or not Goldberg would be healthy for one more match, as he revealed he broke his hand during his final outing.

Pelicans' exec makes team's stance on Zion Williamson crystal clear

It’s wild how quickly the NBA narrative can flip. A year ago, Zion Williamson was in every trade rumor possible. People were questioning his health, his work ethic, even his future in New Orleans. And the Pelicans? They didn’t really deny any of it. It felt like both sides were one step away from walking. But things have shifted this offseason — quietly, but clearly. The Pelicans could’ve pulled the plug. Zion’s contract gave them outs, and the trade market might’ve still brought back some real value. Instead, they stuck with him. And based on what one of their own just said, they’re not just keeping him around — they’re still betting big on him. In a recent interview with Spotrac’s Keith Smith, an anonymous Pelicans executive made it crystal clear. “Zion is still our guy. We’re all in on him. We think he’s going to have a huge year. We’ve had some bad injury luck and some things that just haven’t worked out. This partnership hasn’t even come close to reaching our best yet.” That’s not something you say if you’re halfway in. They backed it up with their offseason moves, too. They traded CJ McCollum and brought in Jordan Poole, a high-usage creator who can take pressure off Zion. They drafted Jeremiah Fears with the No. 7 pick, a dynamic young guard. They added Kevon Looney, a reliable veteran who brings playoff experience and toughness. Those aren’t tear-it-down moves — those are “let’s try this another way” moves. Of course, Zion’s health is still the question. That never really goes away. He played just 30 games last season, but in those games he looked solid: 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per night on 56.7 percent shooting. The explosiveness was there. The playmaking was sharp. And the hope for New Orleans is that this time, he can finally sustain it. What’s interesting is how the front office is trying to create a better environment around him. Joe Dumars has stepped in to lead basketball operations and is reportedly building a closer relationship with Zion — dinners, real conversations, not just surface-level stuff. It feels like, for once, the team is trying to meet him halfway. It’s a risk, sure. But it’s a calculated one. The West is brutal and the margin for error is thin. Still, if Zion can stay healthy for 60 games, and if Poole finds a rhythm and guys like Trey Murphy and Herb Jones keep improving — this team has a shot to be in the mix. The quote from the exec says it all. They could’ve hit reset, moved on, cleaned house. But they didn’t. They’re still in. And now it’s on Zion to hold up his end of the deal. After everything that’s happened, they’re telling the world they still believe. Now it’s time to find out if they’re right.

Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels gives perfect response to Terry McLaurin drama

Training camp is underway for the Washington Commanders. The team held their first official training camp practice this week as they gear up for another deep playoff run. The Commanders will be going from the hunter to the hunted in 2025, so the team must come together to put the best product on the field early in the season. A large piece of that is wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who has already begun to hold out of camp after doing the same for minicamp as he searches for a contract extension from the front office. It has been a frustrating process, but the team is hopeful to come to terms with their franchise-wide receiver sooner rather than later to keep the cohesiveness of the team together. Daniels Not Worried Following Wednesday's practice, McLaurin's quarterback, Jayden Daniels, expressed whether there was any concern within the Commanders locker room. "It's just business in the NFL. We know Terry's working, we don't really have to worry about him doing any of that, but at the end of the day he's still one of our brothers." It doesn't seem like the Daniels or any of the other Commanders are all that worried about McLaurin's absence. This isn't the first time an NFL player has held out due to contract negotiations. It's just how the business side of things works. There's confidence that something will get hashed out between the two sides to keep McLaurin in Washington, and Daniels addressed how he is going to make up reps with his star wideout during his absence. "Yeah, I mean, just constant communication and watch film, whenever that time is. But other than that, I mean, me and Terry built a rapport and it all stems from the relationship built off the field and being on the same page and checking both of our egos for the betterment of the team." McLaurin and Daniels quickly built a rapport last season, becoming one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the league on one of its top offenses. There shouldn't be much drop-off, if any, despite McLaurin missing time, but as Daniels repeatedly said, it's all about communication. "I mean, I talk to Terry like if he was here, just checking up on him, but at the end of the day that's just the relationship we have on and off the field." The Commanders are poised for yet another solid season in 2025, and they would love to have McLaurin in the fold for it. With pressure mounting on both sides, it will be interesting to see what kind of contract the Commanders wind up giving McLaurin to retain his services.
