On the most recent episode of SmackDown, Jade Cargill stormed down the ramp to save Tiffany Stratton, at first at least. Stratton had defeated Kiana James in one-on-one action, but suffered an attack by Giulia post-match. Cargill made her way to the ring, took out Giulia, helped Stratton to her feet, and then delivered a vicious clothesline to the WWE Women’s Champion. It would mark the beginning of a highly anticipated heel run for the first time in Cargill’s career.
When looking at the women’s division on SmackDown, there are not many top heels who have been in contention for the main title. Outside of Nia Jax, who has already had a recent rivalry with Stratton, most of the other heel talent are either in the mid-card or competing in the tag team division.
Cargill has had multiple battles with Stratton in recent weeks, including the triple threat women’s title match, which featured Jax and had that infamous botched finish. Although Cargill and Stratton were not necessarily friendly during that time, their battles should be more intriguing now with this heel turn.
After attacking Stratton, the camera zoomed in on Cargill’s face, revealing a large scar above her left eye. That scar was the result of Jax throwing her into the steel stairs during that aforementioned triple threat match. The injury was not visible at first, as Cargill rolled over and also had her face covered by her hair. Once she walked toward the camera, after delivering a Samoan Drop to Jax, the gash above her eye was visible. Cargill received stitches following the match to close the wound.
The resulting scar from the incident is fitting, as it helps summarize Cargill’s WWE journey thus far. She has suffered not only physical scars since debuting at the Royal Rumble in 2024, but emotional and mental ones as well. They mainly stem from the attack that happened nearly a year ago, where she was pushed onto a car windshield by one of her former best friends, Naomi.
These occurrences have helped mold Cargill into the woman we saw this past Friday. She was angrier, edgier, and did not care who she had to run through to reach the pinnacle.
During that 2024 rumble match, there was a moment where Cargill had a stare-down with the EST, Bianca Belair. That came after both women held opponents over their heads for nearly ten seconds, before performing simultaneous military press drops. The energy could be felt throughout the area, as all in attendance understood what could happen down the line with these two powerhouses.
A Belair versus Cargill rivalry could be on the horizon if the 2025 Queen of the Ring defeats Stratton at Saturday Night’s Main Event for the WWE Women’s Championship. Belair should be back sooner rather than later, and the two-time women’s champ will surely be looking to ascend back to the top of the division. If that means facing off with her former tag-team partner, the EST will probably not have any issues doing so. The two had not been on the best of terms anyway.
Jade Cargill looks destined for greatness, and the push to the top of the division seems imminent. While a portion of the WWE universe is against this move, criticizing Cargill’s wrestling skills, she definitely has enough positive qualities to become that star.
Half the battle is simply having the look, and Cargill definitely has that. She is a 5’10 physical specimen who also has a tremendous combination of power and athleticism. She has a great set of impact moves, such as the pump kick, chokeslam, and her finisher, known as Jaded. Yes, her overall wrestling skills could be better, as well as her ability on the microphone, but the natural gifts are enough to warrant the push she is receiving.
As crazy as it may sound to some, you do not necessarily have to be the best wrestler to become the biggest WWE star. Passing the eye test, having a story people can get behind, and great signature moves can get a competitor far in the industry. Jey Uso, for example, often receives criticism for his lack of wrestling skills, yet he is one of the top stars in the business. That is due to having those other great qualities.
Cargill is a force, and she is on the brink of stardom. Her era may begin this coming Saturday, if she can take home the WWE Women’s Championship for the first time in her career. The possibilities from that point on are endless.
