Even though we won't have a clearer picture of what the top of the WrestleMania card will look like until after Elimination Chamber this weekend, two World Title matches have already been confirmed for WWE's biggest show of the year. That means there are odds for those matches, and at this early stage, bookmakers don't like Gunther's chances.
Jey Uso won the men's Royal Rumble and has decided he wants to face Gunther for the World Championship at WrestleMania. On the one hand, Uso has tried and failed to grab a seat at WWE's top table for so long that it feels like this has to be his moment. On the other, Gunther is known for long title reigns and by his lofty standards, this title reign hasn't been all that long yet.
Despite Gunther's prior title reigns in WWE, The Ring General is currently tipped to lose his championship at WrestleMania. According to one sportsbook (via Fightful), Gunther's odds of retaining at WrestleMania are +550 (11/2). Uso's odds are -1000 (1/10) making him the heavy favorite. There's still a long way to go, of course, but interesting to note Uso is so far ahead of Gunther at the bookies.
Uso finally winning a World Title, and doing it on The Grandest Stage Of Them All, would be one of the feel-good moments of WrestleMania weekend. It might even be the moment WWE uses to counteract what happens in the only other match we know is happening for sure at this stage - Charlotte Flair vs. Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women's Championship.
While the odds for that match are far closer, they won't make for quite as pleasant reading as the current odds for the men's match. Flair is currently the favorite to win with odds of -135 (50/37) while Stratton is slightly less favored at -105 (21/20). While many of you will likely despair at Flair being picked to become a 15-time World Champion, I wouldn't worry just yet. Those odds are incredibly close and this far out from WrestleMania, they're naturally going to fluctuate quite a bit.
It's also worth noting that even right as a match is about to begin, the betting odds might not paint an accurate picture. Even the bookmakers were surprised that Uso won the men's Rumble with his odds at +2000 (20/1) right before the match. That said, it seems very likely he will ride that momentum to a World Title win at WrestleMania at this early stage.
