John Cena is edging closer and closer toward the WWE exit. His farewell tour, which saw him become a record 17-time world champion at WrestleMania 41, is past the halfway point. But Cena’s professional wrestling retirement isn’t for nothing; it’s in service of a growing demand in Hollywood, with his slate of confirmed projects stacking up.

Cena is set to star in “Coyote vs Acme” and “Matchbox” – the latter being the latest film from “Extraction” director Sam Hargrave – in 2026. The WWE Champion also continues to star as the titular Peacemaker in the DCEU. The second season of the show is set to be released in August.

Alongside his WWE commitments, Cena is currently promoting his latest film, “Heads of State”, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Starring Cena, Idris Elba, and Priyanka Chopra, the WWE legend was spotted at Wimbledon earlier this week alongside Glastonbury headliner Olivia Rodrigo. He has also been interviewed on the likes of The Late Show and Good Morning America.

But one piece of promotional content that has been doing the rounds was Cena’s appearance on Letterboxd’s social media pages. Appearing alongside Elba and the film’s director, Ilya Naishuller, Cena and co. were asked to name their four favorite movies.

Founded in 2011, Letterboxd is a social platform for film lovers. In its early years, the site was relatively unknown. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the user count grew significantly.

This has led to Letterboxd becoming a consistent presence on red carpets and at film premieres, as well as providing a wide-reaching platform for films and production companies seeking coverage for their films. Letterboxd’s most well-known feature on their social media is asking famous actors and directors to name their four favorite movies. And Cena was no exception.

John Cena’s Four Favorite Movies

So, the question on everyone’s lips: what are John Cena’s four favorite movies? After losing an impromptu game of rock, paper, scissors to his co-stars, Cena revealed his favorite films first.

“My opinion can be swayed, but at this moment in time, this is what I’m going with,” explained Cena. “The Shawshank Redemption. The Matrix. Saving Private Ryan. Star Wars episodes four, five, and six.”

“As a WWE performer, I love the definition of good and evil and outside challenges and the absolute totality of the hero’s journey,” justified Cena. “And those are four films that I can’t get out of my head. So those are my top four.”

While many film stars and directors often choose a variety of picks – a widely popular film, a cult classic, an obscure gem – Cena’s picks very much inform the character he has portrayed for the majority of his time as a WWE superstar: no-nonsense crowdpleasers, appreciated and celebrated by nearly everyone on the planet.
