John Cena's Opponent For Saturday Night's Main Event Revealed: Reports 7 John Cena on Raw (via- WWE)

John Cena turned back the clock on SmackDown this week with a powerful promo targeting CM Punk. Channeling the spirit of Punk’s iconic “Pipebomb,” the Cenation Leader borrowed a few pages from The Best in the World’s own playbook, only to flip the script. Cena not only called out Punk for his hypocrisy but also broke new ground by name-dropping AEW stars.

During the closing moments of the show, the Undisputed WWE Champion was blindsided by The Best in the World. However, Cena quickly turned the tables, slamming Punk through a table set up in the middle of the ring. Climbing to the top rope with a microphone in hand, Cena dropped a massive bombshell—calling out Punk for betraying his principles and siding with TKO, accusing him of compromising the very values he once stood for.

You’re not against TKO man, you’re Mr. TKO, because they’ve knocked your balls off your body.

The Cenation Leader then looked directly into the camera to greet his friends and fans around the world. However, the real shocker came when he mentioned the names of AEW star Claudio Castagnoli (f.k.a. Cesaro), former WWE star Nic Nemeth (a.k.a. Dolph Ziggler), and Matt Cardona (better known to WWE fans as Zack Ryder), sending waves through the WWE Universe.

Many believe Cena’s promo was a direct shot at WWE’s tendency to release talented stars to make way for bigger, more marketable names. Adding to the drama, Cena boldly declared his intention to walk out of Night of Champions with the Undisputed WWE Title.

The Cenation Leader has reignited hope among fans, with many believing that WWE could finally be getting back on track after a string of underwhelming months. Adding more fuel to the fire, Cena has now made some intriguing comments regarding the future of his farewell tour in WWE.

Speaking on SummerSlam Kickoff Show, Cena stated that he and WWE are building something very unique in the coming weeks. He referred to his showing on SmackDown as just the beginning off an unbelievable chapter that will culminate at SummerSlam. The Franchise Player added that next week’s SmackDown and the Night of Champions will be a pivotal stages for his farewell tour.

The Undisputed WWE Champion has solidified his place as a mainstay in WWE’s main event scene, making him a central figure in the top storyline heading into SummerSlam this year. Meanwhile, CM Punk poses a legitimate threat to his title reign. History has shown that whenever Cena has underestimated Punk, The Best in the World has found a way to come out on top.

Kevin Owens reacts to John Cena’s epic “Pipebomb” on CM Punk

Kevin Owens is also one of John Cena’s most storied rivals in WWE history. Unfortunately, due to a neck injury, KO won’t be able to be part of Cena’s farewell tour. However, he’s not letting the moment pass without showing support. Following SmackDown, Owens shared a photo of himself wearing a John Cena shirt, a subtle but meaningful nod to The Franchise Player’s ongoing program.

Taking to X, Owens shared a backstage photo from WWE where he was seen wearing a green John Cena shirt. The gesture appeared to be a nod to Cena’s epic promo, suggesting that the Undisputed WWE Champion may have won him over once again as the road to Night of Champions heats up.

Moreover, it’s well known that The Prizefighter isn’t exactly a fan of CM Punk. Naturally, he wouldn’t want The Best in the World to triumph over The Franchise Player. His allegiance clearly lay with Cena—and the photo served as a subtle nod to that loyalty.
