John Cena Should Have DOMINATED Brock Lesnar - WWE HoF's Unique Wrestlepalooza Pitch
Arn Anderson in AEW

John Cena and Brock Lesnar's Wrestlepalooza will go down as one of the most disappointing matches of Cena's WWE Farewell Tour, and a WWE Hall of Famer thinks it should have been booked differently. Lesnar squashed the 17-time world champion in convincing fashion, although the match itself left much to be admired.

Arn Anderson: Brock Lesnar Should Have Got Lucky vs John Cena

Brock Lesnar was able to hit John Cena with multiple F-5s in a finisher-heavy 8-minute match that left fans frustrated as Cena's career nears its end. It is thought that the booking of the match was so that the Beast looked strong for his eventual slayer to get a major rub.

If WWE doesn't revisit the pair's feud before Cena retires on December 13th, their story will end with Lesnar as the winner of their longtime war. Even if they face each other again, it will mean that other superstars, such as Bron Breakker or Dominik Mysterio, may miss out on facing the 48-year-old for a rematch that nobody is eager to see.

WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson shared his thoughts on how the match unfolded, suggesting that the roles should have been reversed. The Enforcer believes Cena should have been the dominant one (via ARN):

"I would have said, 'Brock, you are an absolute gorilla, you're a beast, you have beaten everybody that you've ever touched half to death, and the audience gets it. How would you feel about giving - in a shorter match, four to five minutes - giving Cena the entire match, and you catch him out of somewhere with a cheap shot and you hit your finish.' And both guys win."

Lesnar squashing Cena has happened twice now, with the first easy win for the Beast occurring at SummerSlam 2014 in a match that thrilled fans because of the shock factor. This was when the former UFC Heavyweight Champion took the champ to 'Suplex City'.

Anderson felt going down a different route would have pleased fans and ticked all the boxes:

"That would have been my recommendation on how to structure it. Everybody wins. I've still got it mentally, I know what's right and what's wrong, and what you can do and get away with, and who lives in the mind of a wrestling fan, what they will accept and what they won't, and what they appreciate. That just covered all the bases."

Brock Lesnar vs John Cena WWE Wrestlepalooza 2025

Lesnar's return has been mishandled regardless of the win over Cena because neither even interacted properly until their match other than constant attacks. That's why their Wrestlepalooza match bemused fans, and the spot would have gone to a younger 'monster' such as Breakker or Jacob Fatu.

When Could John Cena Avenge His Loss To Brock Lesnar?

If WWE were to book John Cena's final match against Brock Lesnar at Saturday Night's Main Event in December, it's fair to say that it wouldn't go down too well. Of all the candidates to officially retire as 'The Greatest of All-Time,' it shouldn't be a 48-year-old Beast who will soon be closing the book on his own career.

Cena is already in action at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on October 11th, when he faces AJ Styles, another of his longtime rivals. His only other PLE appearance after this comes at Survivor Series in San Diego, California on November 29th.

There have been hints that Lesnar may align with Seth Rollins' stable, 'The Vision', due to his reconciliation with manager Paul Heyman. It makes sense for the Beast to be a member of that team (along with Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed and another candidate) against a team consisting of Cena and Rollins' current rivals, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Jey Uso.

Cena could eliminate Lesnar from that WarGames match, perhaps by scoring the final pinfall to claim victory for his team. That allows WWE to end their rivalry the right way, without wasting one of the only three remaining dates left on the Farewell Tour.
