It's a shame Kevin Owens will be out for a while nursing a neck injury because he's one of the most underrated wrestlers of his generation. The 40-year-old is a Grand Slam Champion in WWE, has main-evented WrestleMania multiple times, and has had phenomenal feuds with the likes of John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns.
Owens' superpower is his ability to convey emotion in the ring. Whether he's a heel or a face, he is able to get premium audience buy-in. Perhaps this incredible character work is why Owens teased a desire to work with a world-renowned movie star.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Owens seemed on board getting in the squared circle with a former Oscar winner. "I would love a match with Matthew McConaughey," Owens said. "I heard he liked wrestling a lot, and he might be interested in something like a match one day. If he ever wants to step in the ring, I'm happy to make sure he never does it again."
The WWE higher-ups clearly have immense trust in Owens, considering they let him hit the face of the company with various package pile drivers, a banned move, in the last few months. He is a safe yet hyper-realistic worker who could put on an engaging match with a mop.
McConaughey is a bit older now and likely can't do too much athletically, but perhaps letting him do a few spots as a manager or special guest referee could be intriguing. His involvement would generate plenty of mainstream buzz, which is always beneficial to the business as a whole.
Triple H and Nick Khan, make it happen.
