Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle got candid about his career. Angle was a guest on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he discussed how he felt his pro wrestling career was better suited to Total Nonstop Action.
Angle was in TNA from 2006 to 2016. He made his debut on October 19, 2006, and his last match was on March 8, 2016. Angle told Helwani that while it was hard to say that TNA was better, one of his reasons was that he came “into his own.” He said:
“I had a better career, too. I had better matches, and that's really hard to say because I had some really great ones in WWE, but I came into my own — I was having some knock down drag out matches with AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, Bobby Roode, James Storm, a lot of great talent, Motor City Machine Guns, Jay Lethal, just a lot of great talent down there to work with. When I left WWE, I was salivating at the mouth because I saw so much talent in TNA that was untapped that I was like, ‘I can't wait to get down there.’ And like I said before, I think I had a better career there, so I do take pride in that.” (h/t: WrestlePurists)
During his TNA career, he held the TNA World Heavyweight Championship six times, was the X-Division Champion, and held the TNA Tag Team Championship twice with AJ Styles. Also, in his TNA career, he was in two major stables: Main Event Mafia and Immortal.
Angle later added that he still watches TNA and is pleased that WWE and TNA are collaborating. He brought up how he wishes WWE would buy the TNA Library, noting how he has more matches with TNA than WWE. Angle would like WWE fans to see his career. He said:
“Yeah, I try to watch, you know especially in NXT. Listen, I never thought in a million years TNA would be involved with WWE. You know, it gives me hope, because I will tell you this. A lot of WWE fans didn’t watch TNA. And now that WWE and TNA are kind of merging together a little bit, hopefully they’ll do it more where I want WWE to buy TNA’s library. Because then the WWE fans will see my TNA career. So, I had more of a career in TNA than I did WWE. And I’m hoping that eventually they do buy the library. Now they’re only going to be able to do that if TNA goes out of business. And I don’t want them to go out of business. So, I’m just hopeful that someday eventually they’ll buy the library.” (h/t: 411Mania).
Angle’s not wrong. His TNA career was pretty impressive, but a lot of people didn't see that side of his career. It would be beneficial for both newbies and those who want a refresher of his TNA career. Angle is the second person to be inducted into both the TNA and WWE Hall of Fame. Sting is the other wrestler.
