These days, WWE finds its future stars in all sorts of non-wrestling ways. Among the most popular to ever be discovered is Liv Morgan, who got her job thanks to a chance encounter while working at Hooters.
Liv Morgan on getting discovered by a WWE wrestler while working at Hooters“I kind of just spit all my wrestling knowledge to them and they’re like ok u really do love wrestling.â€pic.twitter.com/5O1TafNnDjhttps://t.co/5UiRowIqCy— Vick (@Vick_8122) December 19, 2025
Morgan recently shared the story of how she was discovered by WWE, noting that it came in one of the more unexpected ways.
“Well, a little backstory, everyone at Hooters knew I loved wrestling... I worked my bar shifts, and whenever WWE came to town, the wrestlers would come into Hooters. I was a huge WWE fan, so everyone would be like, ‘We have this girl—she just loves wrestling.’
Apparently, there was a wrestler who used to manage that specific Hooters, so anytime they were in town, they’d stop by. "I ended up talking to one of the wrestlers for a while, and I was like, ‘I want to wrestle.’" She explained they laughed it off, but she started rattling off all my wrestling knowledge, and they were like, ‘Okay, you really do love wrestling.’
She said after that conversation, that’s when they introduced me to Joe DeFranco. Joe DeFranco is a world-renowned strength and conditioning coach—he only trains professional athletes, and he trains Triple H on a weekly basis." I went to his gym, and he threw me right in with his NFL guys. I had never worked out a day in my life before that." She noted she was struggling through everything, but wouldn't quit, and DeFranco must have liked her resiliency.
"Joe ended up reaching out to WWE for me, which was honestly the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. He told them, ‘We have this girl, and I think she’s worth taking a look at.’ I had just missed a tryout camp, and they said, ‘We have another one in six months—keep training with her and we’ll try again.’"
She added, "So I trained with Joe DeFranco every single day, for hours a day. I’d train with him in the morning, then go work my Hooters shifts. When my tryout finally came, I was really prepared—not in wrestling, because I had no wrestling training—but in strength and conditioning. I absolutely crushed the cardio drills, and I got signed."
"It was the craziest blessing of my entire life. It was bizarre.”
