WrestleMania 42 is just a few months away, but the show, which will return to Las Vegas for the second year in a row, has yet to really take shape. There are reports that new WWE Champion Drew McIntyre could face Cody Rhodes or have a triple threat which includes Jacob Fatu, but that's really it. After the Royal Rumble is when the WrestleMania card will really start to take shape, yet a new report states that WWE is already set on having one match fans really want to see.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select:
While many have assumed it to be the case, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch was considered to be one of the more "locked in" matches for WrestleMania. A number of creative changes have occurred towards WrestleMania, but this has been a planned match for quite some time.
This isn't exactly a shocker by any means, and is more of a confirmation of a match everyone is hoping for. After leaving WWE in 2015, AJ Lee made a huge comeback to the company last year, where she was wildly received by fans. Her first appearance, at the end of an episode of SmackDown, was to protect her husband, CM Punk, from Becky Lynch. This resulted in a tag team match between married couples, with Lee and Punk defeating Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza.
AJ Lee returned a few months later to help Maxxine Durpi beat Lynch for the women's Intercontinental Championship, which led to Lee and Lynch being on opposing teams in the WarGames match at Survivor Series. There, the babyface made the heel tap out, and although it was a satisfying ending, there was still too much of a story left to tell.
We're now revving up the car on the road to WrestleMania 42. Recently, Becky Lynch beat Maxxine Durpi to get her title back, leading to fans wondering if she would keep the midcard gold until the biggest show of the year, and if so, who would she face. There is only one option, and that's AJ Lee.
There are several ways to bring Lee back to WWE TV. An easy one would be to have her enter the Royal Rumble and cost Lynch glory again, this time preventing her from being the last woman standing. The company could also just have Lee show up on an episode of Raw, interrupting a Lynch promo, and fans would be happy.
It's all but certain that Lee vs. Lynch is going to happen at WrestleMania 42. The only question is how it ends. Lee already has two victories over Lynch, and distracted her out of a title. Would WWE dare have her come out on top again, or does the heel get the win this time and leave Lynch walking out of WrestleMania still carrying the gold?
