Matt Hardy is currently working with TNA after deciding not to renew his contract with AEW earlier this year.
Now, it appears that Hardy is looking to briefly return to WWE programming. On Tuesday's episode of NXT, Cody Rhodes told the current champion, Trick Williams, that his next contender would be crowned after a Battle Royal next week.
Rhodes noted how there would be contestants from "other locker rooms." Of course, Rhodes could be alluding to Smackdown and Raw. Yet, given WWE's growing relationship with TNA, rumors have already begun to surface.
Shortly after Rhode's promo, Hardy took to X to tease a potential return to his former stomping ground.
After I PROCURE the TNA Title of the World on Friday, I might just DELETE 24 OBNOXIOUS ANTS & also become the NXT Champion. https://t.co/76S9qIaKHp

Hardy is a WWE legend. Even if fleeting, his potential return would be a major boost to NXT's ratings. A potential feud with Williams would also help elevate him with the WWE fanbase and potentially set him up for a step into the bigger promotions in the coming years.
Of course, Hardy's comments on social media are likely speculation. If he was returning to WWE, the news would likely be kept secret to get the biggest reaction from the crowd. Nevertheless, nobody will take his post too seriously, so a potential appearance is still possible.
Despite appearing on TNA, Hardy is still technically a free agent. He has stressed that he's enjoying the freedom that comes without being tied down to a single promotion. Whether he would consider returning to WWE for one final run in the company remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, Hardy is undoubtedly in the final stages of his career, so if he did want another run with WWE, now could potentially be the best chance he will get.
